For an OS drive you want something with DRAM, like Hynix S31, WD Blue, MX500.

Same, I've used only DRAM-less SSDs for years as I didn't even know what SSD dram was and just bought the cheapest Samsung and Crucial offerings. people on this site tend to say you NEED relatively expensive features that most people really don't.

So like anything, buyer beware.

That said, I would strongly advise against the Crucial BX500. I too have had the freezing issue and found that the ONLY solution is to wipe the drive and re-write all the data. It is by far the worst SSD I've ever used and truly does slow down well below the speeds of a hard drive. I'd buy one of those cheap no-name drives before I'd buy another one of these.
So I'm using this to replace a 7 year old WD Black with music and pictures on it. Im sure it will be fine for this.
I also added one of the Samsung Refurb m.2 NVMe drives from best buy (980 non pro 1tb $75) So I'm slowly moving away from the 3.5 drives completely.
But the 4TB is gona be an expensive one to replace.
