Yep. The banks did no better. I encourage people to use a combination of physical and online backup... just know they both have risk and limitations. You for your house in two minutes on foot, you
get the clothes on your back. That's it.
politicians utilizing CDs a lot more as of late

My wife just pulled out an old CD for something a few days ago and kind of looked at her laptop with a confused expression. Finally found an old laptop that has a CD drive in it that worked. Might need to pick up something like that.

Worst part is I used to have one. Probably got rid of it with the standard "I'm never going to use this..." statement. Then a month later of course I find out I could have used it.

Hi! Can anyone confirm if this works with macOS Monterey? I've see conflicting reviews and want to make sure that it is indeed compatible before purchasing. Thanks in advance!

Hard drives are not as stable as some high quality disks like M Disks. Im 35. Im wanting something that I feel more confident will last 30 to 40 years to store my family photos. Yeah, you could backup on multiple drives, but there's some maintenance cost, and inspection needed for 10s of thousands of photos and videos
I've had far too many optical discs and drives go bad to trust any optical media with my data.
About half a decade ago, I decided to copy all the DVD-Rs I'd burned in the early 2000s onto a single big HDD. So many of them couldn't read with uncorrectable errors. I've also had so many DVD, CD, and even MD hardware go bad to where they can't read a disc. I've had more trouble with optical media than mid-2000s Seagate HDDs, and that's saying a lot.

I'm glad optical media is dead. Good riddance.

Did you buy quality blanks like Verbatim for example?

Still disappointed that Blu-ray drives (internal or external) aren't this price. And that's probably not going to change as the optical formats continue to lose relevance.

I'd like to see a new multi-terabyte optical disc catch on (and the drives reading CD, DVD, Blu-ray), but time is running out and the consoles are not going to be pushing any optical drives for much longer (they might do a slim revision with an optional external drive bundled).

Can I connect it to Amazon Fire stick and play stolen movies on tv?
Maybe? By putting Kodi on the Amazon Fire stick, and connecting the optical drive to the MicroUSB port in a way that still allows the stick to be powered. Better find out if anyone on the planet has successfully done it before wasting your time and money.

2022 cars still come with CD players (among other options), WTF are you talking about ?

The CHEAP cars don't... just a radio and a USB port...
