I just wanted to answer the question, I use my airpods all the time with iOS, but I have also used them with Android in my work phone and windows computer and they work just fine. But obviously you don't get the setup access from windows or Android, for that you need an iOS device. But once you set it up, it is all set. I have the similar experience with the Galaxy buds pro. Since I don't have any android phone anymore, I used windows app for buds pro to set them up and used them with my iPhone. I think noise cancelations and other features like aware mode worked just fine with iPhone but if I needed to change any settings, I needed the windows app for galaxy buds (although I returned buds pro because I didn't find them comfortable at all).
