5950 would help be future proof BUT if you play games the 5800x3d is $329 on some sites like Gamestop right now and its the best chip for gaming.
For sure, but knowing the extent of my use cases, the 5900x is already pushing deep into overkill territory for my realistic near future needs. Also justifying the purchase by donating some of my current parts to my nephew as I build his first computer with him 😅

Nice, just ordered. 10% back on the Prime card helps offset the tax. Coming from a 3700x that has no issues, this is definitely overkill for my current needs but should help future proof my AM4 system for years to come.

I'm on AM4 2700X as well... wouldn't the extra cores on a 5950X be better for perfect future proofing? Just in case you use those extra 4 cores. lol
I'm hoping they have that on sale on BF

Currently on a 5600g, I want 300 fps on valorant. Should I get this? Which gpu should I pair with it assuming valorant is cpu heavy, 6650 xt?

How would this differ from the 5800x3d? Thanks for your expertise. AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-core, 16-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor https://a.co/d/cNOYDZ8

The 5800x3d is 8 cores but has L3 Cache which is used in games to give you better performance. But in the long run when games are utilizing CPU cores better or if you are doing more non gaming CPU intensive things, the 5950 with 16 cores will be more "future-proof" - Disregard the threads, look at core count.

Second this. In this price range if gaming is the primary use, the 5800X3D is the chip. Gaming is still not super multi-threaded, and the 5800X3D is beating the new 7000 series in gaming applications at the moment. That extra cache makes a big difference it seems.

I presently have a Ryzen 7 3700x paired to a 2080S. I do some decent gaming (Destiny 2, COD, Rocket League, etc.) and graphic design (After Effects, Illustrator, Lightroom, Photoshop). Would this be a noticeable upgrade for me?

Was cheaper on Prime day and I purchased one.. The really kind folks at Amazon sent me the Fan with no CPU in the box. So Getting your actual real processor is a roll of the dice.
