This is a good price.

You should take "The world's best gaming desktop processor," out so that newer folks don't mistake this old line to be true about the current CPU market.

For the same sale price, 5800X3D is the superior choice for the 30% performance increase vs 5900X in the many games that like the extra cache, but it's not as good in production workloads (still excellent). Be sure to have a very good cooler. 240mm+ liquid or a really good air cooler.

Even with the 7000-series out, AM4 remains relevant due to pricing, availability, and performance per watt.

Only if. Otherwise, spend the extra $26 at Newegg and go get yourself an i7-12700k
that's only 260 on amazon right now.

Good price for 24 threads and can be undervolted quite a bit to run efficiently.

I mean, if one is arguing for a last hurrah AM4 upgrade, I'd go this route... 5700x. In fact, I already did

https://slickdeals.net/f/16746113-amd-ryzen-7-5700x-8-core-16-thread-unlocked-desktop-processor-179-free-shipping?v=1

I don't think the 5900x is worth 120 more, especially for an older upgrade, but hey you guys do whatever you want

And this one is 65w and stays cool.

I had a 5900x and "upgraded" to the 5800x3d for gaming. I regret replacing the 5900x because at
1440p UW there isn't much of a difference. Also, Non-gaming performance is worse with 5800x3d.

Lastly, my benchmark scores went down after switching to 5800x3d so my ego took a hit.

Yeah otherwise $30 more for 7900X which competes with 13700K

If 5900 drops to this price, that means the 5800x3d will drop to $250 or lower this PrimedDay or July 4 sale for sure. Rumor 5600x3D will also be released to AIB.
