I own the 14" and have commented on it being a great laptop previously. It's still going strong after 1.5 years as my primary personal laptop and handles PD and DP (dual monitor via a hub) via USB C just fine. Yes it is clunky, but there really isn't anything comparable in the price range for the specs that you're getting.

I had one of those. Or really I inherited one for free after the hinges broke the plastic frame. A half tube of jb weld later and it was good as new. However, I'd probably still take the worst quality hp over the best that gateway makes these days.

I think you have 30 days to return. I bought refurbished for 329 around 20 days ago, I am able to initiate return and buy the new one for 279. The customer service refused to refund the difference.

I bought one of the 12" celeron gateway laptops from Walmart couple weeks ago when they were $80. Honestly for the price getting any functional w11 machine is a steal. This is much better hardware and I bit (may have to return the $80 one to justify yet another laptop) accepting the build quality may be terrible long term. For these I think you get more than you pay for as long as you understand what you're getting is not equivalent to something that costs twice as much

I have a 2.5 year old gateway GWTN 156-5BL (Amd Ryzen 5 3450 processor, 16gb ddr4) which my son thrashed to within its life doing school work and playing network FPS games (valorant, MineCraft etc.), and the poor thing kept chugging along. I recently updated it to Win 11 (native support for win11) ..

Worst thing was that it was sounding like a tornado and cpu temp was always 170F +

So I finally ordered new thermal paste and just cleaned the fan and reapplied the paste. Now the cpu temps are like 130F ish and the fan is also quieter. Performance is also better as thermal throttling is gone away.

Why I am writing is to give a first hand experience of the Gateway quality, yes it is cheap, yes it creaks and flexes, but it has been rock solid.

Based on this experience, I may just upgrade to this model and sell my current one ...

Yes the 14" GWTN141-10 can be charged by USB-C. I don't know about the 15" GWTN156-9.

I got a gateway laptop with an rtx 2060 a few years ago, and it still works, and I got it for 500 more or less I think.

I just received the 14.1" today, build quality is better than I expected. Keyboard is okay, Track pad is more clickly than I'd like, but not a show stopper.

I confirmed it will charge via the USB-C port, as well as power and send video to an external portable monitor.

Unfortunately I can't get it to send the correct signal to my main monitor over USB-C which is a Dell 49' Ultra Wide Quad HD (5120 x 1440). I attempted to update the Intel Iris Graphics driver but it didn't help. Anyone have this working for Quad HD monitors over USB-C? I'm pretty confident the chipset supports video at that resolution over USB-C, so maybe it is a hardware limitation. It does work via HDMI, but I want to just use the single USB-C cable for power + video.
