It's just a very fast 8-core CPU (more than what you would need for office tasks and most games) with relatively weak graphics, that can be enough for 1080p depending on the game.

AMD is cognizant of a segmentation problem and is likely adjusting graphics to push people to buy higher-core APUs:

5600G = 7 Vega compute units (CUs)
5700G = 8 Vega CUs

That's 87.5% of the CU count in the cheaper model. But with Rembrandt:

6600H = 6 RDNA2 CUs
6800H = 12 RDNA2 CUs

Such a big difference that it led to complaints.

We'll have to see what adjustments they make with a 7n35 refresh of mobile Rembrandt, and what the first desktop APUs on AM5 look like.

Bottom line, you should probably get a 5600G instead of a 5700G. But if the price difference is small and you are going to use the CPU for several years, the 5700G is your final APU choice on the AM4 socket.

5700G supports up to PCIe 3.0 x16 (your motherboard can lower this), but not PCIe 4.0. So if you do add discrete, something that can use at least x8 lanes is preferred, like an RX 6600.

Here's someone limiting a 6600 XT to PCIe 3.0 x8, without much difference in most cases:

And another article:

You should absolutely not get a 6400/6500 XT, because it would drop down to PCIe 3.0 x4 and lose a lot of performance. The low 4 GB of VRAM also contributes to the effect because it has to fetch data from main memory more often:

Isn't it made for people who want built-in graphics? It saves you the cost of buying a video card.

if you're getting a gpu, I wouldn't get a 5700g.
5700g are for those who don't really need a gpu for their needs.

5700x/5600x are more up your alley.
Why? The 5700X is 25% more, and only 1-5% faster. The cost savings alone are worth it, let alone the free iGPU.

5700G locks everything at PICE3

I did notice the difference, but the B350/450 boards will be locked at PCIE3 anyway.

If you are on a B550+, at this cost level the processor does not need PCIE4 for the GPU. The only performance difference that could be seen is with your SSD, and even then real world performance will be identical in almost every workload.

One of those vm a nas? Which hypervisor? Able to pass sata through?
no I just run SMB on the base fedora OS to share files. It runs 35MB/sec usually. Fast enough for any 4k movies and I don't care how long file transfers take, as that stuff runs overnight. I have been trying to implement Seafile, because I want to backup drives to my brother's and dad's house... essentially creating my own cloud file storage.
