Nothing scientific here , but for us the HP batteries last noticeably longer on the Ryobi vacuums than the reg ones

Educate us. I have three 2Ah, 2 4Ah batteries lying around powering several tools for the last six years. I am yet to see a failure. What makes you switch to DeWalt?

Same here. The "kit" batteries I received when I got my tool set lasted about 10 years of light to moderate use before I had to retire them.

I've got so many 4 AH batteries right now from all the DTO deals I've purchased recently that I don't need any. But this is a good deal if you can't wait for another DTO sale.

18V Ryobi power tools and batteries have been absolutely fantastic for me.
I have no intentions of swaying anyone's opinions just telling you my experiences. The "adapters" I use to convert dewalt batteries for use with ryobi tools has ZERO effect on the ryobi tools and batteries. I actually didn't buy the adapters until after I have 3 ryobi batteries die on me in 2 years. I also love my ryobi tools. But there is a reason they are cheaper. The circuit boards will allow you to take the battery voltages to low to be recharged. It's a thing look it up. This doesn't happen with other brands of tools and batteries.

So I will add that there are some specific tools that will kill a battery if you don't believe me test the theory. This radio well known to be the battery killer. Leave a batyery in this tool and you will be down one battery. Even if you aren't using it. (That's what happened to me). The lalcd screen etc draws voltage even when not in use. And the ryobi batteries aren't smart enough to stop the voltage loss. Then when you go to stick thebattery on the charger you get a fault for damaged battery. Like I said been there and done that even tried dismantling and "jump starting" the batteries to be able to charge them. No dice.

yep, i have a few ryobi tools that i have learned to not leave batteries in. a radio and an older brushed jig saw are 2 that i can think of off hand.

but what i dont understand is... your first post seemed to blame the batteries, but it seems as though the tools are to blame. personally i have about 10 batteries for varying durations, but some about 10 years old, that have lasted me well past their expected life. only one that ive killed has been one that i left out in the rain.

So I should prefaced my original statement. But there are problems from both the tools and the batteries. I'm not telling anyone else not to buy ryobi batteries I just won't be doing it.

Amen, brother. Battery boosting is an essential skill with Ryobi batteries unless you want to replace batteries every 2-3 years. I have 2 40V and 4 18V and after 3 years have a 50% failure rate. The BMS's on them are not good.
