I bought this a few weeks ago. Its a pretty good drive, relatively fast, built sturdy. Its a lot smaller tha I had expected it to be.

Why? Unlike External HDDs, these external SSDs are usually MORE expensive, for less performance than proper M.2 SSDs. $150 for 2TB, that's performance limited to ~1,000MB/s is not a good deal.

No. You can easily find much cheaper and/or higher performance NVMe SSDs. Unfortunately many cheap enclosures use problematic NVMe to USB controllers with cooling and USB compatibility problems.
And it's device specific, meaning that even if it works connected to one computer, doesn't mean it will work when connected to another computer, or phone, etc.

you can build SABRENT USB 3.2 Type-C Tool-Free Enclosure for M.2 enclosure with nvme ssd , it would be around $30 + cost of nvme. Good things is easily replace nvme or swap it out frequently fairly easily. Right now I think might be cost more than this but might be more flexible with format types etc..

No, I was thinking to go this route but decided to get this for a couple of reasons. Cheapest 2TB SSD from a reputable brand will cost you the same price if not more expensive. I have the latest Macbook Pro which tops the speed to 1000MB/s due to USB implementation and the only way to get faster speed is to go for a Thunderbolt drive/enclosure which will double the price. So this model is the optimum set-up for my needs. It is useless to get a faster external drive if your ports doesn't support those full speed.
