You're comparing the prices wrong. This one's $20 cheaper either way. If you have the student/employee discount you can knock almost $20 off either drive.

TU OP!

Advise: Should I buy? Have a new Lenovo Legion Pro that has 2x1TB Samsung 2280's PCIe 4.0 installed (but not pro - whatever Lenovo installs). My MB is PCIe 4.0.

Thinking I'd replace the storage 1TB with this (and clone the OS SSD onto the 1TB for redundancy). And then use this 2TB for storage. I may want to do some video creation and I think the extra space would come in handy - but not sure if the speed hit would be noticeable.

Alternatively....I could spend more to get a faster SSD or wait to see what BF brings.

This is so tempting

FWIW, I'd go for the WD. I've now had two failures with the Samsung 970. These have a very low TBW rating from the manufacturer to start with but I never got above 5% of the way through that before the drives failed. Drives rendered themselves "Read-Only" and the MFT is corrupted so I cannot even use them as "read-only" to clone from like I'd hoped. I'm normally a big fan of Samsung memory but I won't touch these again.
Specifically, my drives were the 500GB variant which are rated at 300TBW. Supposedly, this means I could write 80GB per day for 10 years without issue. In reality, my first failure was at ~10 TBW (3% of the rated reliability) and 18 months of use.

Trying to decide between this one and this recently discounted one on Amazon for my PS5. I might have to get the cheaper one for $155.

Samsung 2280 doesn't refer to anything specific so it could be anything (in terms of M.2 drives), but whatever it is, you most likely won't notice a drastic difference slotting in this one with whatever you've already got. ln terms of using it for storage, you technically could, though it's not very cost efficient- and this drive will be great for video work. As to the final decision as to nabbing this one or waiting even longer for another deal on an even faster drive, couldn't tell ya cause this will personally be my first upgrade from SATA SSB to NVMe drive too. lf you need this storage now, l'd jump on it, otherwise if you can wait, then you can take a gamble and see what BF brings

Thanks for posting, just had Best Buy price match my order from earlier in the month that was for $179!!

I have been keeping an eye on PC parts prices and always request retroactive price matches from Best Buy when a part goes on sale. This saved me nearly $100 in the past few weeks.

The 980pro 2tb is just $11 more, considering the 10% amazon reward

Pretty terrible price since 1TB is down to $50-60 and 2TB is around $98.

Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought four years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 8-128TB.

Everyone has been brainwashed to eat these high prices because xyz reasons. It's easier and cheaper to print ssd NAND memory than make a hard drive yet you don't see those staying stationary at 1-2TB for the past 4 years.

I bought WD Black SN850 from BB. 2TB for $229. Is it worth it the extra cost?
