Visit this page: https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/c...4252096710 and click on "Get one On Us, when you switch. See Details." Phone is $49.99 up front, which will be refunded via Prepaid MasterCard 3 months later. Need to keep line active at $60/month to qualify.
This is carrier locked, but completely fine for trade in. You have to port a number in for the promo. It's kind of a waste of a brand new phone, but it's probably the best way to get a phone immediately for trade in. You won't have to wait for Straight Talk to refresh their inventory or ship a refurbished phone.
These are the steps that I would follow if I were to purchase from Metro again:
1) go to corporate Metro store
2) ask for iPhone 11 64GB black for $49.99 after $450 instant rebate
3) ask for $40/mo plan, to see if you lose the $450 instant rebate and get $60/mo plan if absolutely needed
4) prepare to pay $20 activation
(some time there is a promo where the AF is waived. its rare..however...happened last week Sat + Sunday..may return during BF)
5) confirm the cost of service, this should not be more than the charge for the monthly charge. Don't pay for HD video, Mexico/Canada calling, bundles, or insurance
6) confirm the total price before providing payment and be prepared to leave if they do not quote you a price between ($50+$20+$40+tax=$110+tax and $50+$20+$60+tax=$130+tax)
7) only provide payment once this is confirmed and verified
(forgo any cc points u would have earned had u paid by your favorite CC and instead pay by cash)
8) provide port in details (phone number, account number, port PIN)
9) confirm that auto-pay is disabled, pull sim (includes unlimited service for 1 month)
10) trade in phone at Best Buy or Google
Not familiar with that particular case. But in my area, there are lot of immigrants, and lot of them barely speak English. Checking Google reviews, it seems like this is a standard practice, they get scammed into getting all these addons and then a month or few months later, someone tells them that they were getting scammed.
I even read a review where the person agreed to the insurance for his kid but they told him/her that buying the expensive case/screen protector was part of the insurance requirement.
Someone should do a hidden camera investigation of these ba$tards.
btw..i am 99.9999% confident i know your least favorite cellular carrier
I actually changed credit card to payment before posting. What's the downside of credit card for purchase?
Of course it would be nice to avoid the $20 activation fee, but I'd much rather avoid paying for fraudulently added items, whether they are services or accessories. Getting this phone for under $100 would be great, but they'll probably find another way to upsell.
This could be a good deal for a new iPhone 11 even though you need to pay tax up front and $20 activation fee. As advertised, you would pay $200+tax after virtual $50 Prepaid MasterCard for a new iPhone 11.
Rather than pay for 3 months of $60/mo service to get the $50 prepaid card, I'm going to try to activate with $40/mo plan and cancel after 1 month. The terms indicate that you get $450 instant rebate. This would cost $60+tax. If they don't let me activate with $40/mo plan, I can activate with $60/mo plan and still cancel after 1 month.
No, sorry. That thread says in BOLD: phone will be unlocked after 6 months (180 days) of uninterrupted service with Metro. It's the third point down under notes quite near the top. Now, there does seem to be some differing opinions on whether it has to be paid of if it still unlocks after 6 months but it's not a sure thing and the Metro terms and conditions are unclear at best.
There was a wiki post added to that thread which said it was just 6 months wait, not 6 months service so you didn't have to pay but recently, another post was added saying that 6 months after activation, their phone was still not unlocked. So they confirmed that it's VERY YMMV. The only way to guarantee the unlock is to have the service and if anything disrupts the service, the 6 month clock starts over. Just wanted to point out that the thread you quoted specifically said it has to be paid for 6 months.

Just below the OP, the wiki and other replies indicate that the phone may unlock on its own after 6 months. Some recommend keeping sim in phone and not porting out. A call into customer service after 6 months may also help. Unlocking is irrelevant if you use this phone on WiFi or as a trade in.
Can some please clarify. Google says metro phones should work on cricket. I'm on cricket don't want to change or port in my real number. Can I just port in whatever cheap disposable number in store. Buy the phone for like -$100 in store activate with the 1st month plan. Then go home and insert the SIM card from my current cricket phone into this and my cricket service will work?

I did this deal today with a port in from visible. Cost was 50 for the phone, 60 for first month service, 20 activation fee, and tax on 500 (price before instant discount). It would not work with the 40 plan. The rep tried it for me but wouldn't go through the computer.

You can just stop paying after confirming auto pay is off. If you stay three months however, you'll get a $50 debit card.

According to this thread, you can pay for 1 month of service and the phone will be unlocked after 180 days: https://slickdeals.net/f/15808654-metro-by-t-mobile-port-in-offer-64gb-apple-iphone-11-one-month-of-service-160-in-store-only-new-lines
