If the internet is out it will work as regular switches. They will have a blinking red wifi sign to show you the internet is down, but they will work normally. If I'm not wrong, they will keep the present state when the power cycle, or maybe off, I had some power outages and didn't have to walk around the house turning them off, but I'm not sure if the lights that was on remained on. But it will not wake you up in the middle of the night in case of outage.
Tp-Link is staying in business as far as I've read. Matter compliant devices should come out by the end of the year. I don't think they've announced if they're going to release their new products under Kasa or Tapo branding.

I have a question about parasitic load or draw on these. Anyone measured them? That's the issue with wifi smart home vs z-wave is the power draw as you have to have that wifi radio on all the time. If they are 2 watts each and I have 25 of them around the home, that's 36Kwh per month or about $90/year in my area, which I don't know if anyone considers the cost of running these long term it really adds up. I wonder if the new system they are offering in the 9xxMhz spectrum will have more or less draw? Which smart home system has the least power draw? I know wifi is the most power draw of the smart home networking technologies...

Fair question, don't have an answer though. Technically all wireless technologies would have some kind of parasitic draw since they need to stay connected and "listen" for commands but I'd be shocked if wifi vs. z-wave vs. zigbee was anything more than negligible.

Unless you have 3 defective units, it's likely your wifi router/access point, especially if it is a garbage consumer router. They're fine for phones/laptops but horrible for IoT devices.

I just bought these and installed two of those, works fine with my HomeKit, I do have WiFi6 Mesh router and it's been stable.

If you have a lot of devices on your network, invest in a mesh system or extenders. Made a world of difference for me.

My entire home is filled with these, and I mostly like them, however my biggest issue is Kasa saying they will update the devices for Apple Homekit, then they went back on their process with Apple, and now instead released NEW devices with Homekit. I'll be switching to Lutron on the next house or when I decide to rid of these.

I have a bunch of these smart switches in my house and I love them. They did lose internet connection for a few weeks but it was restored-probably a firmware update. I did notice that they are slightly warm to the touch. Is this normal or am I not as an electrician as I thought?

I'm not sure if it's just me, but these are the worst possible smart switches. They randomly drop connectivity & become unreachable after a few days. I have to do the setup all over again only to lose them again in a week or so. Probably the dumbest smart home device I have in my collection.

If you want a "smart" home please avoid these & spend the extra cash to get one from hue or another brand.

I'm waiting with baited breath to see if they update the firmware to support matter. (Hopefully the hardware supports it).

Me too, but not expecting to be happily surprised.

I'm not sure what the problem is in your experience, be it a faulty device, bad software, other network factors, etc, but I've had the opposite experience... I've been using Kasa switches for a few years now, I have installed like 30 of them and the number of times I've had connection issues can be counted on one hand of a person who lost 3 fingers...

Haven't had any issue with my power strips / bulbs / plugs. They all worked great without issue. I did have issue with the Kasa 24/7 cameras freezing once a while when looking at live view, it was a bit further towards the edge of my house so I assumed it might be a weak connection issue. I had to kill the app on my phone and it worked again.

Connectivity issues, like already mentioned, are majority of the time an issue with your router. Unless you have a ton of defective devices, usually it's your router that causes the issue.

If you use a wider channel width, IoT devices will drop. If your router can't handle high amounts of clients, things will drop. Signal strength will also cause it to drop.

Wifi can be difficult to troubleshoot with limited information but to say "worst possible smart switch" couldn't be further from the truth. If anything, they're one of the top best smart switches on the market.

Hmm, I needed 3 wall switches. If I added a quantity of 3, I get to choose no rush shipping for $2 Digital credit. So I tried placing 3 separate orders and I got $2 Digital Credit for each order, totaling a $6 digital credit. Hopefully it works and Amazon doesn't catch on.

Edit: nevermind, its looks like there is a 3 pack that is cheaper than ordering 3 seperate ones.

Beware, Kasa released an update to their Android app in November that completely broke all functionality for a large number of users and they still haven't fixed it. I haven't been able to do anything to 95% of my Kasa devices via the app for at least a few weeks, and there's no word on any fix coming. I'm not the only one having this problem by a long shot.
Which app do they use in android?
