Tough decision...36 boxes of these or 36 bags of rice? there's always fires to cook rice, in an apocalypse in movies.

How much water do you need stored to prepare 5400 servings?
If you're so desperate to escape a post-apocalyptic world as to have one of these pallets on-hand, I'd think that in a pinch, using "personally-recycled" water wouldn't pose much of a problem.
I think this is why they use so much salt!

Good question, most don't think about these will need a water source or stored water.
if you have a bathtub get the WaterBob and that will give you 100 gals. Fill it if if there is an impending storm or other disaster. If the storm doesn't occur just empty it . It only costs about $35.

Have two for each of our bathtubs. If there is a major hurricane headed our way, I will fill up both.

Looks like their 'serving' varies between 50 and 200 calories, so these rations are basically just for keeping you alive (if just going off of servings) and not if you need any energy for anything. You'll need about 350 gallons of water to prepare all the servings as well. What if someone in your group is allergic to something? Well, depending on the meal you have you may need to look out as some packets are labeled that they are processed on the same equipment as tree nuts (and milk, soy, wheat, eggs).
Each bucket has about 7500 calories total.
Storage conditions will determine the actual shelf life. To get the best shelf life you'll want to keep this between 50 and 55 F.
