Yes, it is.
Auto-lock is amazing. There are also other improvements on RS 3 like touch screen and visual indicators for balancing and better adjustment locks and micro-tilt adjustment. I agonized before upgrading from RSC2 to RS3 but it's so worth it.

Yes it is possible.
When you zoom in or out it will unbalance the gimbal a bit.
For this reason you want the this bigger S2 as oppose to the SC2.
But it all depends on the zoom lens weight you are using.
This thing has a lot of depth in learning how to use it. My advice is to watch a bunch of youtube videos and follow along while they talk about it. Honestly, I haven't even learned all the abilities yet. I've started just walking around the park with mine to get practice.
