Hmm, hate to burst your bubble, but the other cheaper set is more practical and by that I mean works better. The knife in the nicer set has a paracord handle. The more you use that knife the more the narrow steel spine digs into your hand. Knives with a regular handle the pressure is more evenly spread on you hand less hot spots. The paracord wrap feels like sandpaper after a bit, picks up dirt and grime like crazy and is hard to clean that grime off. The hatchet has the same problem with the paracord handle. On top of that, the thin blade does not wedge wood apart enough and has a tendency of sticking in the wood tight and you have to wiggle it to get it out. The thickness of regular hatchets makes them split the wood instead of get stuck in it. The saw back on that machete does not work very well, catches a lot and does not cut well, wire saw works faster and isn't as clumsy to use, also does not catch nearly as much.
The cheaper set has a more traditional design features to it, more practical and proven. The other set has more of the trendy design features to it that the manufacturer thinks catches the public's eye more. But certainly does not work as efficiently.
I have this set, all of it works just fine. If I guessed that the hatchet and knives came from the same factory that makes fiskars and gerber I probably wouldn't be wrong. Hatchet and the two knives works fine, no issues, same with the paracord and the wire saw. I haven't really tested or used the lenstatic compass or the carabiners. If you want bragging rights look elsewhere , but if you want to split kindling, cut things or tie things together, this set works just fine. Nothing "hot garbage" about any of it at all, works just fine.
Seriously? Why wouldn't you want a bread knife in the handle of your hatchet?

Don't you recognize a commando saw when you see one? You must not be a real commando.

Seriously though, the teeth on that saw look a lot like the razor sharp teeth on those Japanese pull saws. It would probably cut wood pretty good.
Yep, mine arrived today. First thing I thought is the blade serrations looks like a Japanese hand saw. So not a bread knife lol

Could go for the non-paracord version too: https://www.walmart.com/ip/348066038

Purchased this on the 16th. Got the shipped "label created" with ups and it never moved from there. Just chatted with Walmart today and they refunded it.

Yeah, that would have better handles that aren't impossible to clean. But the thin hatchet still won't split wood, just gets stuck in it. Will chop fine cross cut (perpendicular to grain) though. I have the version of this with the standard thick hatchet and standard handle knife, quite happy with it especially for the price.

Have both the knife from the expensive set and the whole $15 kit. Paracord handles are terrible for any real use. I'd prefer the $15 over and over unless you specifically need the machete (which has a plastic handle).

This set is exactly what you would expect it to be for the price. The hatchet is nearly worthless if you actually expect to use it. If you really need a hatchet just get a Fiskars and you'll be much happier. If you are just in it for the novelty, it's a great deal.

This might come in handy if you ever need to bury the hatchet. It would be a shame to bury a good quality hatchet for such ceremonial purposes.

It's a handsaw. I have one for pruning larger branches on fruit trees. I could see how it could be helpful with a hatchet when camping, but generally you don't need to make exact cuts for firewood.
