My 10 year old son and I were streaming Rogue One the other day on Disney+. 4k with HDR. It looked great, but I told him I have the disc. Let's see if we can notice a difference.
I popped the disc in mid movie and we both felt the difference was obvious. The detail in the video was nicely improved. The sound was fuller and richer. The surround details were more distinct.
But for those of us who have a 5.1+ setup and a high end LED or OLED it is absolutely worth the money. 4k streaming is about the quality of a 1080p blu ray.

Thanks Jonhern! That's what my thought is. Btw., projector doesn't have such audio settings as you advised. This player has limited streaming (Netflix, Prime and youtube) only but should be supporting the Atmos. I wish Disney+ would have been added as native app. I have ordered it.

Having compared them it is with all 3 formats but most likely isn't worth it if you play games IMO.
No. The disc player has nothing to do with it. I recently picked up an old Denon dvd/blu Ray transport from 2008 (DVD-2500BTCi, $1000 when new), which was created before atmos was even an idea. I used it the other day to watch Maverick in Atmos through my Denon x3600h AVR. Why are using hdmi "out" from a projector? Your disc player's output should go to your AVR, which should be connected to the "input" of your projector.
Your high end AVR has all bells and whistles that amplifies the signal. My Soundbar and projector don't need an AvR. Projector (Arc hdmi) downgrade the Dolby Atmos and Dolby vision signal to Dolby digital. I have tested and accomplished Dolby Atmos & vision from same Apple tv & fire stick using Hdmi eArc splitter and Picture quality enhancer. But it costed almost $400, still it's streaming. This player is steaming UHD natively and has dedicated HDMI out for sound. So, should meet the need
So he has an atmos capable soundbar that doesn't have an hdmi output to his projector?
Your soundbar doesn't have an hdmi output to your projector? Connect player/steamer output to soundbar hdmi input and connect soundbar hdmi output to projector input, no?

I have had a few projectors. They're always at the end of the signal chain. One reason being they're often way off in another part of the room from the sources. Sometimes 20 or more feet. Doesn't make sense to run all the sources to the projector. That's a lot of very long hdmi cables.
I looked up several atmos soundbars and they all had hdmi outputs to the display along with hdmi inputs from the sources.
