It beats it. This and the new Samsung 990 are top of the food chain now until Gen 5 ones come out.

My 980 order has been delayed 5 times so I guess this is it.
Yea this is why I'm getting this. I ordered a 980 pro 2TB from samsung on black friday and it still hasn't shipped. Yesterday I got an email saying it's been delayed another 30 days...

No idea what the situation is for other SSD manufacturers but it's possible the shortages/delays will hit other companies soon.

I am naive about new (last 15 years) technology. I have 3 of the 1tb versions in my computer I built last year. I'd like to swap one of them out for a 2tb version here and put the 1 tb in my ps5.

Can the heatsink be swapped, or is it soldered or permanently attached to the dive?

Runs hot as read in reviews. Idle power is higher than Hynix and 980pro but not as much. I'll wait a bit more due to heat issues
I had one and used as external system drive in M1. It is cooler than SK Hynix P41 for about 5-10C under light load. Due to the limit of NVME enclosure, I have never been able to run in full speed and see the real temperature in that case. In the SMART info, both SN850X and P41 both have 5 power mode and idle mode is almost next to nothing in both drive.

This is the P41 power mode for ex, mode 3/4 are almost ignorable. I saw similar power consumption mode in SN850X.

All the high performance drives run hot. They all need a heatsink. Except maybe 980 Pro.

Looking for the return of the sn850x 4TB at a reasonable price. I got too many 2TB now. Haha
Not sure what kind of system you're working with but maybe a PCIe M.2 RAID adapter could be useful to you:

The 3500 read/write for the sn570 pretty much uses all the performance available on gen3 slot. If not significantly cheaper though, I would still go with the sn770 for future use.

One question. Mobo comes with m2 heatsink and we can buy third party very large heatsink for 10-20 bucks. Any advantage buying the one with heatsink, and the one with heatsink can be used with the heatsink that comes with Mobo?
I generally use the heatsinks that come with the motherboard. The 3rd-party heat sink will do a better job but clearance may be an issue on some motherboards. If clearance is not an issue for you, I'd go for a bigger heat sink.

Thanks!
Also the 1TB SN850x is at $109. Tempting!
The 1TB is on sale for $99.99 at Best Buy but it's w/out heat sink.

Just a heads up for those who don't need super fast shipping and haven't ordered yet, WD themselves are matching these prices with an additional 12% off via the 'sweet' site we all know.

4TB at $380 is an even better deal relative to MSRP. Was looking for a 4TB drive and at this price finally pulled the trigger.

Would like one that's 4tb on sale.
4TB is on sale as well. $379.99. Same as cyber Monday, and the lowest I've seen it.
