Microcenter continues to offer a free G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-6000 PC5-48000 CL36 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit with the purchase of an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X Raphael AM5 4.7GHz 12-Core Boxed Processor. But now, they're matching the prices at B&H and Amazon, and taking them down $2 further to $417.98! This is historically the cheapest this CPU has ever been offered new, and it comes with free DDR5 RAM, worth $150.

Note that Micro Center does not ship CPUs. This deal is B&M only, but you can reserve it online or in-store pickup.
Also, the Zen 4 CPUs do not come with a heatsink or cooler. So you'll want to have a pretty decent CPU cooler, since these Zen4 chips are designed to run very hot (up to 95 degrees Celsius!)

In addition, if you bundle the CPU with an AM5 motherboard, you'll save another $20. Their system doesn't apply the discount if the motherboard is open box, but you can try to get a manager to override that, if they won't, and you manage to find one you want.

Yes, the new cheaper non-x versions are out. But with this sale, the non-x 7900 is $12 more! If you want the power savings and efficiency that the non-x versions provide, you can set this CPU to ECO mode in your motherboard's bios, at a small performance cost.

Also, yes, the 7900x3d is coming out in a month, with improved gaming performance in some games, but they haven't yet announced the price, and industry experts expect that they'll be priced at $600-700. So, basically, you'll get a 15-30% performance boost in SOME games for 50% more money than this deal, and likely with no free RAM.

The CPU:
https://www.microcenter.com/produ...t-included

The RAM:
https://www.microcenter.com/produ...-fx5-black
Add both to your cart for a reservation for in-store pickup, and it will drop the price of the RAM to $.01. You generally have 3 days to pick up your reservation.

Some other ways to sweeten the deal:
1) Keep watching for an open box CPU on their website or in store. They generally take around 10-15% off open box CPUs. These are generally customer returns, and are tested before being put back in circulation. But if you manage to find one, reserve it quickly, since they sell out quickly. Obviously, test it as soon as you get it!

2) the Microcenter page for this product shows an ad for a free Star Wars Jedi: Survivor game. It's not mentioned anywhere else on the page, or in the cart or checkout screen. I didn't see the game or listing of a code or offer when I added it to my cart. Usually, the code is e-mailed or listed on the receipt. So, you MAY (or may not) get a code for a free game with this purchase. I'd ask a store representative or manager about this.

3) Submit a build to their Build Showcase for a $25 off coupon, with no minimum and no strings. as detailed in this thread. Note that it's currently taking a few days for them to approve the build and send the coupon. My reservation expired 3 days after I made it, and the coupon arrived the day after that! So, submit your build NOW! You can submit new builds every 30 days for a new coupon.

https://slickdeals.net/f/15599461-submit-your-computer-build-get-25-off-microcenter-purchase-no-minimums

4) I'm not sure if they're still sending out $25 off on any CPU coupons to new customers, but it's worth a shot!
https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/specialofferallprocessors.aspx [microcenter.com]

Note that the coupons generally don't work on open box items. But you can always ask a manager to see if he'll override that. No guarantees obviously.

If it's anything like the previous generation, the X3D processors will provide more fps in the majority of games.
No. Also, this CPU runs on Socket AM5. Your system board is Socket AM4, so not compatible at all.
Man, this generation of CPU and GPU launches has been a big bust for the enthusiast (outside of 13th gen Intel) from a price/perf standpoint. 5900x/RTX 3090 hold-out here. I have zero intention of upgrading this generation, but I look forward to the next one.

I dont know why anyone would upgrade every generation anyway, but I feel like a lot of people are high right now on the "doom and gloom" constantly being pushed by their favorite overcritical YT reviewer.

This is a decent deal but honestly not much reason to go with an X when the 7700 comes with a decent cooler that can handle its low wattage. Pair it with a 4070ti and you can build a rig that'll outperform that 5900/3090 combo for about what people were paying just for 3090's before.

Sure the new gpus are still high, and that wouldn't really be a worthwhile upgrade from 5900/3090, but building a solid/affordable system is better right now than it has been for years.

First off, there was a lot of analysis and a bunch of suggestions to make this deal even slicker in my original post that didn't carry over when the SD staff rewrote it for FP. Click on "original post" to see them.
Quote from GoroAkechi :
Unfortunately, AM5 motherboards are still too expensive and need to come down in price.
They already have. That was true for the x670 and x670e motherboards, but the B650 and b650e boards are much more affordable. MicroCenter lists 30 AM5 boards under $300, with 21 of them under $250 with the combo deal, and 9 of them under $200, though only 4 of those are are full ATX. And 6 of those 30 are x670's and x670e's too, for future-proofing

Or you can wait for the even cheaper a620 boards, which will be out later this year. But there's only so low that the next generations of motherboards from either side of the aisle will go, since PCIe gen 5 and DDR5 implementation are expensive, as are the VRM's that can handle the power needs of the latest chips. The days of the sub-$100 motherboard are pretty much over.

But if money's tight, I also recommended in my original post considering an open box motherboard for additional savings of 10-20%. Most Microcenters have several to choose from in stock in a variety of price points. I know that it can be scary to buy an open box motherboard, but MC tests all of their customer returns, and the savings can be significant, or allow you to buy a better motherboard for the cost. This was my third open box motherboard in 6 years, and all have worked fine.
Quote from max1001 :
Mine has been running on 6000mhz since the day I got it.
Ditto. I'm even using 4 sticks and 64GB, since my MC had an open box set of this RAM for $127. And it's been running smoothly. Theoretically 4 sticks should be more unstable. But I took a gamble, and it paid off!
Quote from boball :
Which will provide more FPS in games - 7900X or i9-13900 or 7900X3D ?

Or is it dependent on specific games?
the 7900x3D for sure. You'll probably get 15-35% better performance in most games. But most industry experts expect that the 7900x3D will be between $600-700. So, you're likely going to have to pay 50% more to get 15-35% more performance. And you also may not get the free RAM, either.
Quote from Doug5421 :
Tempting, but since I'm building around a 4090, that last ~10% or so performance upgrade matters to me to not be cpu bound.

Will wait for x3d reviews, but also hopeful they extend this free ram offer to x3d chips since AM5 hasn't been selling.. Time'll tell..
I'm not holding my breath, given that they are not extending this deal to the new non-x CPUs. That and the likely high price everyone is predicting that the x3D CPUs will be going for was what drove me to bite the bullet on this. Good luck, though!
Quote from ten80 :
TU for the title intro
Yeah, everyone is getting sick of all the complaining about MicroCenter deals getting posted here! SO glad this post didn't become yet another complain-fest! The title in my original is even better, with lots of asterisks and "B&M only" too!
Quote from max1001 :
Lol. MC jacked up all AM5 Mobo price by $20 to offset the -$20 for Mobo combo deal. Basically around the same price as BF if you were planning to get Mobo from them.
That never happened. I've been watching the prices of boards since they came out in September. And pretty much every one I was looking at is exactly the same price as it's been the day it came out. And those prices are pretty much the same, or lower than anywhere else. Hell, the $20 deal has been going on since AM5 launch day anyways, except for that short period of time when they made the combo deal $50 off.
Quote from HusLol :
Please note pick up only in the title
I put "B&M only" in the title. Whoever rewrote it for the front page put "Micro Center stores", presumably meaning in the actual stores. I even put in the description of the original post, which you can see by clicking on "original post": "Note that Micro Center does not ship CPUs. This deal is B&M only, but you can reserve it online or in-store pickup."
Quote from essix8 :
The 13900/13900k is 11% faster in gaming than the 7900x, and 18% faster in multi-thread.

https://www.reddit.com/r/hardware...h_reviews/ [reddit.com]

The 7900x3D hasnt been reviewed or launched yet, it launches sometime in February, but with no confirmed price, though its rumored to be $650-$700. Based on what was announced, it will probably be 5% faster at 1080p, and pretty much equal at 1440p and 4k to the 13900, but around 25% slower in multi-thread due to the lower TDP and lower frequency than the normal 7900x

I'd get the 13900/13900f/13900k. LGA1700 motherboards are cheaper, 13th gen has far better DDR5 compatibility and can do far higher DDR5 speeds, you definitely wont see these RAM deals with x3D, and the multi-threaded performance is better on the 13900.

Edit: If you care more about gaming than multi-thread, the 13700 has basically identical gaming performance to the 13900, and you can get the i7-13700 starting at $380
Actually, "based on what's been announced" and based on the uplift of the 5800x3D (which they've said this will have a better uplift than) the 7900x3D will likely be 15-30% faster in gaming. But yes, it will likely be 50+% more.

Meanwhile, the 13900 chips you're recommending are 40-65% more expensive for that 11-18% performance boost. And neither it, nor the 13700, comes with the free $150 RAM that this deal comes with. DDR5 compatibility is generally only a problem if you buy chips with XMP that were designed specifically for Intel chips, instead of chips with EXPO that were designed for AMD chips. And those are generally more expensive anyways, especially those pricey high speed RAM sets!

So, basically, with the 13900's, you'll save around $100 on the motherboard, but pay at least $170 for similar RAM and at least $150 more for the CPU, for a total of 50% more for a performance boost of 11-18%. And for the 13700's you'll save $100 on the mobo and $38 on the CPU, but pay at least $170 for the RAM for nearly identical gaming performance and much worse productivity performance. Isn't this supposed to be Slickdeals? It's the free RAM that makes this a slick deal.
Quote from itsme4g63 :
I got in on this deal with the 7700x @350$ and am a lil salty about the x3d chips but the value proposition was unmatched.
What's there to be salty about? We knew that the x3d chips were coming before these were released. I was considering waiting, but given how expensive those are likely to be, and given the free RAM here, I decided it wasn't worth waiting to pay a whole lot more. This is more than powerful enough to meet my needs. and it probably will be another year or two before the x3D chips become affordable enough to be worth the upgrade. And even then, I'll be using this CPU for that year or two, and then I can sell the non-x3d CPU and keep the free RAM.
Quote from mmaholick :
I returned and my HOT mess of a 7900xtx and went with a 13900k with ddr5 soooo much more stable definitely not a pro. Just wanted a future proof system I went 13900 and 4080. Love it.
You replaced your GPU with a CPU?!? LOL.
Quote from xNico :
Returned my 7950x, waiting for the 7900 or 7950x, im going to save so much more money in power costs. these new cpu coming out run at a fraction of the watt these pull.
Fair point, but you won't get the free RAM. And right now, the 7900 is already out, but strangely $10 more than this deal! If you want the power savings, you can set the 7900x in ECO mode in your motherboard's bios. The Zen4 non-x chips are basically the same as the x chips with ECO settings for less money. This price drop and the free RAM basically defeats the entire purpose of the non-x chips. Leave it to AMD to make their newest products pointless before they even hit the market!

From what I can tell the ram is Hynix (M die maybe? Can't find any conclusive answers through Google search). If thats the case then you can probably tighten the timings a bit for free extra performance. Pretty decent deal tbh, and hits that sweet spot of 6000 for AM5.

Still no ragrets on my 13700kf build though. Yes, I paid $160 more for it over this deal but I have much better ram (hynix A die 6400 CL32 XMP that's going to probably o/c to 6800 CL32-34) and a better cpu. Well worth the difference if you'll ever do anything besides gaming with your PC, gents.

The free RAM is definitely not Hynix M die. I have this exact deal, and unless something has changed, the RAM I got is G.Skill Flare X5 32GB DDR5-6000 Samsung die with C36-36-36-96 timings (taken straight from CPU-Z).

That being said it seems to be working fine and is completely stable in the ASRock X670E Steel Legend mobo. I haven't tried messing with the timings but I've thought about it. Smilie

I'm fortunate to have a MC 20 minutes away from me (used to live even closer until a few years ago), but I can relate to your plight because that's how I felt every time there was a deal at Fry's for something I wanted which was in-store only and I lived 300 miles away from the closest store and the cost of driving down would've mooted the savings.

My current rig's mobo (Gigabyte X99-UD5 Wi-Fi) was a MC open box and it has been rock steady OCed to 4.3 GHz for over seven years. They had several in stock and I looked at a couple of them and picked the most complete one. Got it for $160.

My last six GPUs (GTX 670/770/980/1070, RTX 2070/3070 Ti) were all open boxes as well.

For anyone wondering what motherboard to get with this, there's really only one answer right now from a value perspective MC just started offering an amazing combo deal, as outlined in this thread.

https://slickdeals.net/f/16407847-amd-ryzen-7900x-asus-b650e-motherboard-g-skill-flare-x5-series-32gb-ddr-5-6000-ram-599-99

With that combo, you're getting (with this CPU and RAM), a motherboard that's regularly $300 for only $182! $600 for next gen CPU, mobo and RAM is a steal! And certainly better and cheaper than anything you can get on the Intel side of the aisle.

Honestly, I think that it's a price mistake (since they have worse combos for more money!), and they'll likely fix it soon, so jump on this! There are certainly better AM5 motherboards that you could buy, but not even remotely in this price range.

That motherboard is still quite future proof, with gen 5 in one each PCIe and M.2 slots and the same enhanced audio that they're offering in their $400+ boards. Basically, you're getting all of the extra B650E features for less than most b650 non-E boards. I've got the x670E-A version of this board (which was much more expensive at $360 for an open box), and it's been awesome. If I didn't already have that board, I'd JUMP on this deal!

There is other thread which has mother board also included for $599. Is it worth to buy a long with motherboard? Can some one shead light a better config for complete pc build. I am a techie, but Never built one myself. Will be using for running/ practicing machine learning algorithms, not a gamer but my wife uses for video editing occasionally.

Currently I use shadow tech remote desktop which works fine. But looking for solid pc instead of making monthly payments
