I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

I have not. DIdnt even think they were still in business there. I thought that metro was closing down all corp stores.

Any specific stores you can recommend that has them in stock that I might be able to get the same deal you did? Also note I am using Boost numbers from ebay to port in. One store told me that does make a difference
This map shows all the Metro stores in Vegas and whether they are Authorized Dealers (most are) or are Corporate stores (the four pinpoints in brown).

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/storelocator

This past Saturday, I went to a Metro store near me before I was aware of this map. It was an Authorized Dealer. I wanted to buy a Samsung S21 for $99 and port my number over, for real. He flat out said the phone was $199 regardless of whether I ported my number, and was limited to a plan that was much higher than the $40 plan I wanted. Higher than $60 as I recall. I left.

My current Straight Talk plan expires in one month, so I was going to give one of the corporate stores a try. Next time, I'm bringing screen prints of the Metro website.

I have a spare number on numberbarn if anyone wants it. I bought one too many
I'm not interested in your number, very generous BTW, but if you could help me figure out how a person can buy a porting number in a straight forward transaction, that would be very helpful. I find numberbarn to be very obtuse. When I enter my state and area code, I can find to buy are numbers that have a monthly charge attached to them. Where am I going wrong?

The charge goes away once you port out. It's a fee for keeping the number active

This was a complete waste. Every metro store has their own rules that they make up. One wants 3 months upfront payment. Other wants additional $100 to be eligible. Etc. Never ever doing deal with metro again.

I just visited a Metro corp store and successfully ported-in a Google Voice number. It was very painless. The big surprise was that there was no tax on the phone, so I only ended up paying $80.08 ($60 service fee + $20 device activation fee + $0.08 "regulatory fee recovery on activation"). Yes, I know this is set by the state but it's not what I was expecting as I live in CA. The other surprise was that my GV number had finished porting over before I had even gotten home!

I have read about the horrible experiences with Metro stores that some of you have shared here, but this is not what I experienced at all. The guys at the store that I visited were super nice and not pushy about the upsells. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that the store will be closing in a month but it was a very pleasant experience.

Anyways, thanks to those of you who have provided help and advice, and good luck to those of you still trying to get this deal!

So, how many phones can a person be able to get? Per person or per household?
The offer is limited to 2 per account, but I was told by the rep that there is nothing stopping someone from opening multiple accounts.

Checked but this is confusing "Device can be unlocked after 180 consecutive days (6 months) of paid service on Metro."

If i do not maintain 180 days of service and cancel after 1 month what happens ? How to get device unlocked
