If you are still rocking a Zen or Zen+ CPU (Ryzen 1000 or 2000 series), and your motherboard has a bios you can upgrade to to support the 5000 series, this is one heck of an upgrade. About the only significantly better CPU for gaming on the AM4 platform is the 5800X3D at more than 2x the price. I wouldn't necessarily build a system from the ground up for this cpu (AM4 is a dead-end), but it's great for those with older Ryzen systems.

If I already have a 5600g with a rx 6600xt, would it be worth it to get the 5600?

Yes bigger cache and supports pcie4 otherwise save your money

Getting apu make sense when you don't have the parts at the time of the build but its a compromise in the long term because they made 5600g so much different than 5700g

Would wait for upgrading platform or cheaper 5700x or above

Your 6600xt isn't bottlenecked by the cpu at 1080p so no need for changing it

Was looking for something like this. I'm building a computer for my son's 10th bday (October) and have been doing the whole song-and-dance of finding parts early/justifying purchase now/assume things will be cheaper later in the year.

If you aren't utilizing integrated graphics, consider an i3-12100F for $98. It's equally fast for a desktop or gaming computer, and only about 15% slower in workstation capability (which most do not utilize). More importantly, the LGA1700 socket gives you an upgrade path all the way to an i9-13900.

Hopefully anyone tempted by these deals already has an am4 motherboard. Otherwise they should snag the 7700x with motherboard and ram for $500 combo.

I know I'm a broken record but just letting people know this was $118 for about two weeks around black friday last year. This is still a good price, don't let $12 stop you, just pointing it out.

Can anyone recommend a good low cost board for this? Mainly going to be a HTPC with occasional gaming. Pairing with 16gb memory and GTX 2070 Super from a system that died.

If you are buying this for the promotional game COH3, good luck. You can activate it only on the system that you installed this very CPU. If you had the plan to use the code in some other system, you won't be able to. Forcing customers to use the specific hardware to play the game they are giving for 'FREE' is super cheesy, so it isn't really FREE it's locked in with the specific hardware only.

If someone is looking for a low budget gaming rig, the R5 4500 for $73 is decent. The performance is similar to the 2600 but it's still a capable 1080p gaming system for a lot of users.

I would consider the 5600x over the 5600 if you have the patience to wait for the price drop later this year. The 5600x was $150 during the holidays. The 5800x3d price will drop lower than $300 with the new 7 series 3D line up announcing soon.
