I had a similar wifi extender before I got the mesh system. But the extender I had worked well! The internet reached all the way to the other side of the house. However, it did tend to slow down when more devices were connected to the extender.

My experience as well. The real solution most people are looking for is a mesh system. This is a decent low budget option that can solve for dead zones or limited range. The other problem with it is that it can cause devices to "skip" when changing between the networks. Mesh is superior in every way except price.
Do they share the same 2.4 or 5ghz network name as the main network?
BTY if you are range extending you will want to do it on the 2.4 not the 5 band. 5 has limited range so by the time it gets to the extender it is a trickle.
