If you have the Best Buy credit card, use code APR24EMOB25 for 10% off, $630 isn't too bad.

This one (Z1 Extreme) is the one to get. Don't get me wrong, the base Z1 seems superb compared to Steam Deck's comparable 512GB version, but damn, the Z1 Extreme is hitting 1080p/120fps in games like Forza and 60fps in RDR2, craziness.

Usually the first batch of YouTube reviews would tend to praise a product at launch as those are from privileged reviewers who receive a free unit from the marketing department of a vendor. I'm waiting for real end user reviews to see if I'd get one myself or invest in upgrading the 64GB SSD on my Steam Deck. If the Ally had a touchpad and ran Steam OS it would be closer to a perfect handheld gaming device, though today's battery tech would still cause concerns to some but it's the same issue no matter which device you pick.

If windows tablet mode is any indication of what touch screen window will look like on this device, id wait a few more years until MS optimizes or even overhauling windows for small screen sizes.

If you buy this now's , get ready for tiny texts and unoptimized games. MS has been trying for years to branch into mobile and failed because windows was built for desktop. The only way of this device to make any dent if it was run on os that was meant for mobile.

This YouTube channel did a review of it comparing it to the Switch. Even if you're not interested in the Switch comparison it had a great review of this Z1 Extreme within the comparison.

I never got it either ... I get why Microsoft wants to have a console to compete with Sony Playstation, but at the same time they do OWN windows which has a lot of games.

I think they're trying to market to both PC and Console (like Xbox Play Anywhere), but I don't know why they just don't go full windows and ditch the xbox.

PC's are getting smaller and smaller, and like this device you can actually run windows on it with decent performance.

If you ask me, it's time to retire xbox just like Nintendo did ... just my 2c
I have a PC solely for playing games on TV. Experience sucks big time, partly because windows is garbage and partly because all the game installer that take minutes to load.
It is also not great to have mouse and keyboard just to lunch a game. Console provides much smoother experience.

I was considering selling my Deck for this, but I think I'm going to stick with the Deck for now. The vast majority of my games are on Steam, and the Steam experience is still better on the Deck. Sounds like handheld Windows could still use some work, though being able to install PC Game Pass games is cool.

But I do hope that Asus and Microsoft continue to improve the handheld Windows gaming experience. Competition is good.

Am I missing something? When Steam Deck was announced it seemed like a really cool concept but I just stuck with my OG Switch which is still a delight to travel with and play. I get it doesn't have every game but for 95% of people it seems far superior to these extremely expensive and gimmicky portable PCs. I truly want someone to explain to me why I'd buy this over a switch?
