A flash in the pan with awful battery life. I'll stick with Steam Deck, which has far better first-party and third-party better support.
It is also not great to have mouse and keyboard just to lunch a game. Console provides much smoother experience.
Also, if you're opposed to PC gaming in general, why are you even in this thread?
I can definitely see the allure of this device and may pick one up a few months after launch. Given Asus track record lately, I just want to see how well they handle support and bug fixes.
I feel there's still quite a market for both of these considering steam still hits that 399 price point on the lower end (that one plus a 512gb m.2 upgrade for around 50 bucks and you're winning value wise).
Oh I believe it. But what you guys are accusing is a big conspiracy for Asus to give everyone money to say things positively about the Ally without merit. I've watched at least 5 reviews of the Ally and what I got from it were consistent pros and cons. To me, that is good enough to have a sense of what the device is like.

Still have 755 credit score. It can lower it but not as much like another poster said.
i'm sure steamOS will be hacked on, it's all open source so there's no reason why it wouldn't work.
i am running win11 full time on my steam deck (game pass is a must for me) so it doesn't make sense to keep the deck. the touchpads will be lame to lose but i'll manage. strategy games are better with a full sized monitor anyway so i haven't found myself using them very much
Long story short, lots of games that work well on the steamdeck out of box, might not on other devices running SteamOS, at least not without doing some work.
I'm in the same boat in terms of waiting for real end user reviews, except I don't own a Deck. I was looking at the 64gb $399 model or going with the ROG Ally at $699.
I saw YouTube videos of the Ally struggling to run Returnal on lower settings, the Armory Crate being clunky, and a less than polished user experience.
If anything, the Deck showed that it takes time for a manufacturer to polish a product. However, I've heard mixed opinions on Asus too. Real world reviews are key, especially since $699 is a lot more coin on a powerful handheld gaming PC.
Even newer handheld PC devices coming in the future will always not run every latest AAA games well. So my thought was to first decide if the games I wanted to play would run well on a device. If they do that's enough to make a purchase decision. As such, I see the 399 SD model still has no competition and could be the best buy for some people.

The proprietary port is interesting and at least already technically has options available. I wonder if people will homebrew their own epgu enclosures
