BB shipped mine in a box, for the record. They come from different warehouses, clearly they aren't consistent with their packaging methods.
I don't open mine, if I want to use an amiibo I buy the cards that do the same thing

All amiibos work with botw, even non-Zelda amiibos. It's only a select few that have exclusive unlocks for botw so while the totk amiibo works, it may not unlock anything special. Nintendo may update botw to change that but it's unlikely. Amiibos will just give you random loot and items if no exclusives are available from it.
since they reprinted them, i don't feel too bad and i wanted the items as well. since they work with so many games, i felt it's worth it for me.
