How do we feel about 8 gb of soldered on non upgradable ram in 2023? I imagine it works for now but just seems too low especially going forward.

I feel it's a shame that Apple keeps the base model at bare minimum specs so they can make huge profit on upgrade pricing for decent RAM and SSD. 1000% profit seems a bit greedy to me, knowing most people will think 8/256GB is too low and have no choice but to pay dearly.

Eh~ Theres a strong chance they're going to want to liquidate these for cheaper in the near future soon since they want to push development into M2 since M3 is coming out and its speculated sales may be slowing. Compatibility development on M2 has been a little slow, and M1 is considered relatively mature now in terms of compatibility & software development. They're going to prob hit lower once M3 comes around in a few months.

If youre like a casual that doesnt run any intensive programs you will be fine and prob never notice it, but if you run any intensive programs 16gb is the bare minimum to do anything music, editing, design, etc* That wall hits you really quick and since they know its a necessity in pro and commercial applications, they intentionally slap a huge markup on it because they know people will have to pay more for it. So the memory scaling isnt very linear they do exponential cost hikes because they know the market necessity for it will always fund it. 16gb models will be their bread and butter, they rarely ever go on sale and when they do the discount isnt very large.
