I bought this phone on the last deal ($288 $8*36 months) for my Mom. I read the reviews and she is not a heavy phone user, so I wasn't worried about the screen cracking or poor battery life. Phone arrives (signature required btw, so you need to be home) - I could not activate it. 2 1/2 hours chatting with Verizon - most of that was them convincing me to upgrade my own phone for free, plus special online only 50% off deals on accessories. Verizon tells me I should be able to activate the Flip within 24 hours (I was transferring a number). Next day - no luck. Drove to where there was a better cell signal - no luck. Went into a Verizon store.
They had nothing good to say about the phone. No matter the usage, they say the screen gets a black line through the middle. (And made me feel a little stupid for buying it). It is a cute phone and I thought perfect for Mom - but I listened to Verizon - went a different route with a newer Motorola Edge and a different upgrade for me. The order could not go through because of the pending order I did online. After almost 3 hours in the store - I have no phones and multiple pending charges on my credit card.
When I called Verizon to make sure everything was cancelled - they told me two things:
1. I could not add the Galaxy Flip to my existing plan - I needed to upgrade to unlimited plans for everyone. (Parents do NOT use data)
2. The trade in value for this phone was $150
Over the top frustration with Verizon - each person I spoke with gave me a different story. Now that this phone is only $180 - I think I want to re-buy it and figure out how to do a pre-paid plan or new carrier.
Based off other Walmart deals I've gotten, this shouldn't be bill credits but should be the final cost. So you could pay it off as soon as Verizon lets you (I don't recall offhand how long that is) and it would still only cost $180.

I can't find anything online about whether we're able to pay it off early & unlock. If so, this deal will be frontage.
You can pay it off almost immediately but the 60 day unlock policy would probably apply
60 days with Verizon or AT&t?
I want to get the phone get it unlocked and use it on T-Mobile. I remember a few years back you could do it with Verizon phones - you would need to have phone active on Verizon line for 24 hours and then it would get unlocked.
Is this how it works today or those days are long gone?
if this is how it works today will all Samsung phones be 100% compatible with T-Mobile? I remember Verizon used to work like that AT&t I don't know

Verizon has a 60 days after activation automatic unlock policy you only need to pay for a month of service.
sorry I generally only speak att for these kind of deals. Verizon isn't something I regularly think about.

Does the phone need to be activated on Verizon service in order to be unlocked? If so for how long? Used to be 24 hours wonder if it is still the case.
It looks like Verizon phones are the cheapest if they're 100% compatible with T-Mobile(which I don't know if it is the case with 5G)

There's no difference between the Verizon, att, T-Mobile, and unlocked variants of flagship Samsung devices anymore.
As it just needs to be activated to start the unlock process on Verizon

Looks like it. When I tried to go through the checkout, it asked to check my credit and was unable to skip or decline.

Nope it's installments with Walmart making a down payment for you.
