It's a four iron at 23* not worth it
Some of these comments are pretty uninformed. I game this and often describe it as a "driving iron" rather than "utility iron" - it's an excellent club that serves an important, albeit niche, purpose. Not every golfer needs one, in fact few do. But for the players who are looking for one, this is a good price on a great club.

I'm reasonably athletic, and on the low side of a higher speed player (driver swing speed around 110). This is more forgiving than a traditional 4 iron and is generally lower spin. I use this on tighter tee shots or when playing into the wind. Beyond being somewhat more forgiving that my set irons, it's noticeably "hotter", with smash factor frequently in the 1.3X range. I'm able to hit a reliable, controlled, shaped shot in the 14X MPH ball speed range, netting approximately 230 yards with fairly low risk.

Don't take my word for it - MyGolfSpy loved the Srixon ZX: https://mygolfspy.com/buyers-guid...lity-iron/
Agree. Maybe I am missing something but do not understand why someone would buy this, especially at $100 "on sale". Nothing more than a 4 iron which can be picked up cheap because many players have opted for hybrids in this loft. I can still play either 3 or 4 irons but no longer in my bag. Hybrid simply easier to hit.

Prob on sale because it is just not a very good choice of club almost ever. The loft is too high for a driving iron, and used on an actual approach you are better of with a hybrid 99% of the time.

Highly subjective. Hybrids can be harder to shot-shape than an iron, they have bigger heads than irons that can make them perform worse in thick-ish rough, and they can tend to be prone to draw/hook more so than irons.

A utility iron like this is generally designed for single digit handicap golfers, not quite confident enough to hit a standard 4 iron consistently into greens but not willing to give up the workability of an iron for a hybrid at this loft.

It's not a large demographic this club is aimed at but it's not an exceptionally small one either.

The 1, 2, 3 irons are available at the same $99. on the mfg's site. I ordered a 2 iron after someone stole some clubs out of my bag. Biggest loss was my vintage Ping Anser putter made in AZ of which I have used on/off for 30+ years.

Ugg, I said mfg and should have said Carls Golfland. https://www.carlsgolfland.com/sri...lity-irons Looks like the 1,2,3 are sold out and now just showing the 4 hybrid 23 degree. Talk to them.

What's your handicap? This is a crude way to determine, but I'd say if you're over a 12 or so, the hybrid is likely the better choice. If you're a 12 or better, you could consider a utility iron.

Do you hit hybrids well? Do you hit irons significantly better than you hit fairway woods?

The utility iron is great for either a specific shot type OR for the player who is a much better irons player than a woods player and finds they hit the iron better than a traditional hybrid.

Just got mine in. I have an old mizuno hi fli (05) and it feels way better and more forgiving. Wouldn't recommend it.

I hit a different, but similar Srixon mkii 2 iron and it is an absolute fairway finder. It's the most useful club in my bag and you have to absolutely put a really bad swing on it for it not to go straight.

I am a 16 handicap and not a particularly good iron striker, but it's way easier to hit than a hybrid imo.
