Both the 980 Pro and 990 Pro had a bugged firmware that was killing them within a few months. They were incorrectly reading the wear on the drives. After a certain amount of wear, the drives become permanently read-only with no way to fix it. Even though the drives had 95%+ life left in them, they were reading as about to die and rendered read-only. That since has been fixed. As long as you update the firmware before that happens, they're fine. I'd be incredibly surprised if there are any drives left with this old firmware (at least directly from Samsung), as I bought one around December and it had a newer firmware than the defective version. The fixed firmware for the 990 Pro wasn't released until a couple months after the 980 Pro fix, so people were advising to avoid the 990 Pro until it was fixed. The 990 Pro firmware was fixed in February.
That was a waste of nearly an hour.

I had it in my cart with the price and as I went to checkout, it reverted to the higher price.

Then I tried multiple ways, no change. Then I went into a chat with VIJAY and he sent me an invalid code to supposedly fix it - nope.

Then we went back and forth with multiple screenshots in support that I was not receiving the Military discount and he then started to claim our tax rates were the issue and that they are almost three time what they actually are....

Finally, I just gave up.

But I'll probably try again later after I've cooled down
Worked for me. I don't even know why I ordered one. Prices should go even lower.

980 is pretty much gold standard.
990PRO had or still has some issues that may or may not have been fixed with updates hence why people still like 980PRO
I personally like Firecuda530 but I tend t go for best $value deal.

try again if you still want it. It worked for me two minutes ago after I logged in and chose the educational discount.

$116 for me (+tax) and pick up in an hour at my local Best Buy (awesome option - it's only 5 minutes away).
Perfect timing too - I was about to do a new re-install on my PC!

Thanks. Finally got it ordered for pickup, or so I thought, from Best Buy late, late last night, early this morning. It was just a day of issues trying to order stuff for me. Had a fishfinder in my cart yesterday morning at AFEES but had to tend to some other business. In just a couple iof hours it went up $200. That one I haven't given up on BUT a tad limited funds right now...

$134.99 for heatsink model with gov discount. Too bad I just got the Corsair a few weeks ago, although Engadget did rank it #1 so oh well. Also it was $130+ prime 5% back so...

Nice find.

FYI, I used the First Responders one because it doesn't require verification and it still worked and brought it $116.99
