can anyone get this discount or do you need an edu email? I mocked it up and it allowed me to go all the way to place order, where I stopped. Will the store ask for something additional when I go to pick it up?

I am not a student or associated with any education. How do I get this discount? I just went through whole purchase steps without being asked about this question at all. I see the unit with discounted price, gift card and even the trade-in item in my cart at the last step with the purchase button. Can I just buy it without a proof?

LOL, agree with the sentiment. Thoughtm It depends upon where you live/what school your kids go to, mine are in HS and have been out since the end of May, and universities on the semester system have been out since late May - starting in August
I went to an Apple store to find out about that. They told me using the gift card to buy AppleCare+ won't work because you have to make your purchase first before you get the gift card but for AppleCare+ to cover whatever you're buying, it has to be on the same transaction (same receipt). It's a Catch 22. So if I want my new iPad, Apple pencil, and magic keyboard to be covered by AppleCare+, I have to buy it all at once. Then I'll get the gift card to buy something else but it won't be covered under AppleCare+. Not happy about that.
Hmm, you have always been able to add AppleCare+ post-purchase in my experience (you have something like 30 days to do so). So why not buy. get the gift card and then use it for AppleCare+ - Obviously, there would be a short time of no coverage but full warranty coverage and it's possible the gift card arrives beyond the deadline

I really hope so and hoping the Apple rep didn't know what she was talking about. Then the deal with actually make sense haha.

I ended up ordering online for instore pick up. The giftcard was sent to me in email when Pick Up was ready before I went to the store. When I went to the store, I asked to add AppleCare+ (with 20% educational discount) using the giftcard in my email and it was done easily.
school been out for days and it's already back to school season lol
I'm guessing back to school starts whenever their US side warehouse starts receiving "back-to-school" goods lmao. I'm guessing apple placed an early order last year anticipating supply chain issues that resolved themselves.
Upgrading the 250gb internal SSD to 512gb costs $180.
For the same price I can get a 2TB of samsung pro 980 SSD + enclosure and use it as an external drive.
Any cons with that approach other than having to carry an additional object?
