Blue, yellow, pink, whatever man! Just keep bringing me that!
Feels bad that I paid nearly $300 for one of these mid-pandemic. But it's still going strong in my main gaming PC so I guess I can't complain too much

Is there much difference between this and the 5700X? I've been wanting a 5700X, but this is a very tempting price point. Ideally I'd want a 5800X or even 5900X but the case I'm working with really doesn't have room for much more than the stealth cooler, so cooling would be an issue.

I currently have a 5600G (bought when video card prices were crazy) and just recently bought a Radeon RX 5700 XT. I'm going to recycle the 5600G into my media server. I'm mainly looking for light gaming and some video compression work with Handbrake.

It depends on what game your playing. Just discovered the game BeamNG Drive is very very cpu intensive so 8 cores will definitely do quite a bit better than 6

Because the more cars on the screen that all becomes cpu bound and not GPU bound.

5700x will take you up to the rtx4070 @ 2k with no bottleneck. So depends if you plan on going up to or above that on your next graphics card upgrade before you'd need to overhaul your system.

I had a 3600 with my Rtx 2070 so I made the jump to the 5700x and threw in 32gigs of ram and m.2 gen 4. This way I have the option to upgrade up to the 4070 or whatever the next series is without jumping to am5.
Thanks for that insight, it does help. I plan on keeping this for at least 3-4 years with no further upgrades (except maybe some incidentals like upgrading my m.2 boot drive from pci-3 to pci-4). I already have 32gigs of 3200mhz ram.

My next major upgrade will likely be a full rehaul, carrying over whatever is still useful. Funny enough, every time I've done that I've carried over at least one component from the previous build, so techincally I've just been upgrading my original 386-33 LOL.

I mostly play strategy games like Stellaris or HOI 4, though I also enjoy some 3d games like Mass Effect Trilogy, ARK, and GTA 5. With my new video card, I did get a code for Starfield, so that'll be the most demanding game I play for a while.

That's the same way I felt after buying my 5800X back in 2021. Unfortunately, I bought mine over FOMO.

I'm in the same boat with you, but my current GPU is RX6600. The general consensus from my internet research is no significant advantage / no noticeable differences going from 5600G to 5600X.

With that in my mind, I'd pull the trigger on this one since I'm planning to build a SFF PC for my in-laws using my used 5600G.

Look for a 5800x3d if they drop a bit more. They are currently at 260 at microcenter if you have one nearby but I would expect it to drop under 250 to compete with intel even more in the value segment in the next few months. Although a 5800x is around 210 now at microcenter the 3D version with the extra cache is mind blowing how much difference it makes in games. 1% lows min / max frame rates all went up quite a bit for me. I just switched over to intel 12700k for my work pc and still use that 5800x3d in my gaming rig because its that good and very impressed with it as a primarily intel buyer the last few years. Just wanted to add to others thoughts but I really think that is really worth it over the non 3d chip.

Bought and installed. Heads up to people who do heavy gaming or anything cpu intensive, you need to get a better cooler. This cpu loves to be in the high 80s under a big load. I bought this for $22 and should be more than adequate to keep the cpu in the 60s under load.
