Interesting point. I always thought the T7 shield was just the drop, water, and dust proof. Is there a good article comparing the sustainable performance between T7 and T7 shield?
I have soooo many drives, including those. The T7 and T7 Shield aren't even in the same class. The Shield is waaaaayyy faster and it sustains that speed. I don't have technical numbers but I transferred 2tb in less than 40 min. The regular T7 has a 60gb cache, which means any transfers over 60gb will slow TO A CRAWL lol.

Just started looking for another backup drive lately and started to see these SSD deals here. Is $60 good for 1TB right now?

Personally I recently needed a portable drive and went with the combo above and just build my own. You can throw whatever size SSD you want in that up to 4TB total $48 for a 1TB

So true; the Shield durability is a distraction that makes it seem like the only functional difference is that, but the sustained speed is best-in-class and way beyond the original T7.

If your motherboard supports it (most new ones do), make sure you get a 10x10 or higher adapter to fully leverage the already-bottlenecked NVMe speed...

I bought this for a Batocera Arcade bootable build. Only spend extra money on extra performance where it is needed.
