Good for removing joint compound or shaping bondo (that hasn't completely hardened), but too fragile for woodworking. Well…maybe balsa wood.

This looks identical to the Stanley plane at Home Depot.

I used that one to shave the top of a door that wouldn't close and it made quick work of it. Highly recommended.

This isn't the type of tool you'd use to plane a door, so I'm guessing you had to do some sanding afterward.

In any case, planing a door is usually the last resort. Hinge adjustment is usually the first thing to try.

It worked perfectly on the door.
No sanding. Why would I?
The hinges on my door didn't need adjusting. Nor are they easy to adjust on the style I have.

What impact does that have on the quality of the tool?

Rarely do you see Ford being called "Canadian junk", "Mexican junk", or "Chinese junk", despite the fact that dozens of their models and parts aren't made in the US.

Or what about DeWalt having plants in Brazil, China, and Mexico?

I'm all for putting your money where your mouth is, but you're going to have to acknowledge that your selection of what you can buy is vastly limited if it has to be "100% US made" (that includes products which cheat by claiming to be "US assembled").

People can make their own choices. I try to buy American when I can, but of course I own some things made in China.

As for why people pick on China, it's mostly because it's where the vast majority of poorly made, disposable tools are manufactured.
