-coway has larger surface area filter and bigger everything. Moves more air, even though they are both rated 360 sq feet.
-coway is less loud, even at peak loudness. Winix has too much wind noise if using high settings.
-winix comes with 2 hepa + 8 smoke filters. Coway comes with 1 hepa + 2 smoke (winix comes with two years worth of filters, coway just one year, per their user manuals)
-winix has wifi, app and alexa/google integration. App is useful to create schedules without visiting its room and pressing buttons. Didn't bother alexaing it.
-people online say it is harder to find aftermarket filters for winix c545 because it is costco exclusive. 5500-2 has more filter options, coway 200m is also a more popular model and shares filters with other coway purifiers so I assume it has more options too, so maybe get another c545 after two years?
-light on coway can be turned off, could not figure out for winix. So, coway is in our bedroom.
-both has ionizers (gets particles to stick to filter better), winix claims its ozone generation (side effect of running it) is less than noticeable level, but coway sometimes gives headaches to my wife so I never use it.
Overall, winix is less upfront cost, less operating cost up to two years, but becomes more expensive after 5. Has more functions but louder. Can't go wrong with either. Anyway, need to buy some now, if you'll excuse me.
Note: I got the coway for $130 (last year walmart deal) and winixes $100 each. $130 is the lowest I saw so far.

I have family members that run expensive air purifiers all day long in their home and I don't really notice any difference when i visit their home and then go back to my own home without one.
Thoughts?

Biggest difference for day to day use, is just the pre-filter on the Coway, which hopefully extends the life of the HEPA filters. Also, one time I was shipped a Levoit where the touch screen was not operational, so I feel like I have more confidence in the physical buttons of the Coway lasting. The Coway HEPA filter seems much thicker than the Levoit. The Coway seems slightly quieter as well. Not sure if it's just the difference in speeds Coway the "low" speed is nearly silent, the Levoit in "automatic" mode is silent, but you can hear it in "low" mode.
Where the Levoit seems better is the carbon filter is actually like a thick honey comb with visible carbon granules, where the Coway is like a carbon Scotch-Brite pad. Feels like the Levoit would do a better job if you have more concerns about VOCs than particulates. I also like the Levoit has a full display off button so zero lights, where as the Coway will always have at least a single light on.
I have both, and don't notice a practical difference in noise level, but depending on how much you have the machine on and how much electricity costs, the long-term power savings can be worth it.
