Sony used to be the one who used proprietary storage. They learned their lesson and Microsoft clearly has not.
Yeah, it sucks.
Yeah, I bought one because this is the lowest I've seen the 1TB and more storage is an absolute necessity for getting the most out of Game Pass Ultimate on a Xbox S.

even from the very beginning x sold out it's preorder and S never did. When I pointed this out I was told "well it's because only the hardcore preorder". LMAO 3 years later X still outsells S everywhere. On Amazon X is currently around #25 videogame bestsellers while S is #250, 4th among Xbox consoles. Behind Series X, Series X renewed (lmao) and Series X Diablo 4 bundle. Granted Amazon ranking can be screwy and influenced by any recent stock issues, but this is overall consistent.
S only sells when MS cuts the prices to the bone (249 or even 199 holiday sales), costing themselves a mint in the process. Because nobody wants it. Even then 499 PS5 EASILY sells much more, proving even at half the price S is not desired. Sorry, Phil done goofed.
Last holiday with some of the cheapest cut to the bone Series S consoles ever recorded, Series S at 249 or even 199, Xbox sold terribly in November and December, one of it's worst holidays i can remember. Only an estimated 700,000 sales in November that would normally be 1.2 million plus, while PS5 was selling gangbusters. Series S really was and is a disaster. MS staked it all on cheap S last holiday and it utterly flopped.
Wow, PlayStation troll to the max. The Xbox S is good for only one thing, it's Cheap. We obviously all know Xbox x is better. If you are a Verizon customer, at one point you could pick up an S for $150. That's only $25 more for an entire system for a near current gen system. I have a PS5, xbox x&s. Not sure how your bank account is looking but everything costs more. This is the ONLY all in one near current gen inexpensive gaming solution on the market today.
Phil done goofed? Should we look into Jim Ryan? Isn't he leaving Sony soon to, "retire". I hardly use my PS5 because unless I'm playing an exclusive game it's just more expensive to be in that ecosystem.
I won't pay a cent more than $90.
Got my s for 150 from Verizon so this expansion card is a win
I bought 3 while they were unavailable…

You can play some X/S games like Rocket League from the external. I just learned how to tell a few days ago.
Go to Manage game and add-ons after you hit the button with the three lines on the game tile. Go to File Info in the bottom left. If AppModel says Gen: Durango it can be played from external. If it says Scarlett then only from Internal storage.
WD P10 is a reliable mechanical drive that's pretty good, not super fast but still decent. 4tb for $115 or 2tb for $75.
If you want a faster SSD drive Western Digital makes the D30, P40, P50. Each one is faster and more expensive.

Please reduce the price of expansion cards. I don't want to pay this much for storage and as a result I am buying less games, less DLC, etc. as my internal 1TB drive is full.
As an alternative how about letting me pick if I want to play the Xbox one version of a game off if an external hard drive instead of forcing the optimized for series s/x version for which I have no room.
On the plus side, thank you for making the controllers, wheels, etc all backwards compatible.

Just get a USB to M.2 adapter and drop in a cheap SSD so in the future you can use it as a normal flash drive. The USB connection cannot max out a NVMe drive but usually NVMe drives are newer and have longer sustained write speeds than SATA ones. Definitely don't listen to what others are saying about using an HDD instead, the write times are way slower.
