I bought the new TCL 98" S5 last month from BB for $3000 (now $4000). Good TV for the size and price, but off axis viewing is washed out. Sweet spot viewing is excellent. Originally ordered last year's 98" XR version from Amazon and it was damaged in shipment. I will be looking to see a comparison between the TCL S5 and this Hisense 100"
ah ok i was thinking about that. looking at the tech, looks like this hisense is better(local dimming mini led vs directlit on the tcl s5)

Great price on a great TV. Shows as unavailable in Ohio, though.

Did Hisense and TCL suddenly become trustworthy brands? I always associated them with cheap Walmart BF specials, I got a 65" TCL and the only good thing I can say about it is that it works and it was cheap. Picture quality is not very good — but good enough for $185.
I guess my point is I wouldn't sink 3G or 5G into a TCL or Hisense product (but feel free to school me on how they have changed)

600x400 vesa mount, 162lbs. So mounts that support that. That said, my 98" TCL is 850x400 and weighs slightly less. The 850 required a mount that hit 3 studs vs 2, 600 should work with 2 studs. I'm no architecture expert but I'd recommend a mount that hits 3 studs for peace of mind.

Seems like a mighty small VESA for such a large TV.

Sad part is this isn't that much heavier than the 62" plasma I bought like 10 years ago laugh out loud

The Hisense *should* absolutely destroy it, since we're comparing a 5 series TV to an 8 series TV. But yeah it remains to be seen.

Any ideas how to wall mount this? Do you just pay an av company?

Don't do this yourself. We just mounted the 98-in TCL at weighs like 130 lbs. We got a nice beefy Sanus mount and it's probably one of the few times I paid Best buy to mount since the TV was expensive, bulky and heavy.

or make sure whoever comes has two people with them

It might depend where you use the TV as well. It's also a lot more expensive.

For instance, I got the 98R754 for $3500 + 4yr warranty for about 4k total + cost of a good mount and install since tv is massive.

In my theater room the r754 looks incredible and I also don't need something that puts out 2000 nits since it's light controlled and I would sear my eyes in the dark.

This one would be amazing in a living room but at the same time it will also cost you about $1,500 + tax + warranty so all in you're probably pushing 2k more

Yeah I guess I'm making the assumption that someone who would spend $3k on a TV could easily make the leap to $5k like it's nothing.

The person who won't spend $2k on TV, yeah you're not getting that guy up to $5k unless it's just a killer game changing product with a killer demo.

TCL is ranked about top two TV brands in the world in terms of market share.

Just like every brand they have a low medium, high and super high-end line. You can typically get all their lines at any of the major box stores like Amazon, Walmart, or Best buy. They have made incredible strides over the last 6 to 7 years in pumping out some really great TV sets. The great thing is it has caused some of the other brands to drop their prices as well to stay competitive.

Just like anything, I would get a warranty on their higher end sets similar to what I would do with a Sony or a Samsung. In fact, my higher end Sony has had a few bugs versus my 3 TCL's.

I mean a 2k difference is still considerable especially since you could spend that money on extra gear. You could get a pretty banging surround sound setup with that difference.

Either way, it's good to see that these 98 and 100-in TV sets are becoming the new norm. It also is great to see them undercut some of the other major brands that are charging double.

For instance, b the installer did a comparison of the 98r754 to the 98-in Sony 90L. They kept up in most aspects and was literally more than half the price

It should yes. I have the 98" TCL XL edition (one step above S5), and the Hisense should also outperform that significantly. Right out of the gate, the TCL has ~150 dimming zones if memory serves, the Hisense has over 1000. That said, I'm happy with the picture/performance and cost of the TCL, but if I were to buy one now, I'd probably go with the Hisense with one caveat, I'd buy an extended warranty. I bought one for the TCL, but I've had two lower end Hisense sets die inside of a year. I would hope this one has a higher quality build but I would want the peace of mind of an extended warranty just in case.

In September it dropped to around $3470 and $3499 a few days for short periods of time before going out of stock on Amazon. This included deluxe unpacking as well for an added bonus.

Was able to get it at the lowest price it was.

maybe you could set up a camel camel camel alert on price drops

I just bought the 85" version of this - was too big to bring up the front stairs of the apartment, barely made it up the back stairs. For situational awareness, the 85"
Is just over 6 feet long and 3 1/2 high - not in the box. In the box it's got to be almost 7 feet long and 4 feet + high, it also weighs 25+ pounds more (about 135) in the box. There are wall mounts for 100" TVs on Amazon - I ended up having to get one as the space over my fireplace has 16" studs with one right in the middle of the fireplace (meaning to center mount the TV I needed a mount with a backing plate at least 34" wide). The TV should mount just like all the others (assuming you can get it in your house), make sure the mount you get is rated for the weight.
