For picture optimization I used this as baseline, it's the Q650G (better version of this TV) and changed a few things as necessary from there. (https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...d/settings)

For performance improvement, i first installed Projectivity Launcher from the play store (https://play.google.com/store/app...rojengmenu), you can also install FLauncher from the play store and see which one you like better (https://play.google.com/store/app....flauncher). Both of these are open source, ad-free and allow you to customize the home screen. You aren't constantly bombarded with promos from Google.

Once you are happy with either of the above launchers you can connect via adb to your TV and run the commands from this thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidT...hromecast/). This disables the primary google home launcher and lets you launch one of the ad free ones from the ones I linked above when you press the home button.

Next I installed tvQuickActionsPro (https://play.google.com/store/app...ickactions) this lets you remap buttons of popular streaming apps that you can uninstall/disable via adb. One example is disabling YouTube, installing SmartTube from here (https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube/releases). This is YouTube for android TV but with adblocking and sponsorblock in built and remapped the YouTube button on the TV to SmartTube.

I also uninstalled most of the extra streaming services to remap their buttons, prevent them from using system resources and disabled these apps which I found to be bloat but you can keep let them be on in the background if you want. This disables alexa, google assistant.

Compared to the '22 models looks like:

6 series > Q750G > 5 series > Q650G > 4 series > S450G

So almost directly in between the old 4 and 5 series TCL TVs if it really is the exact same specs as the Q6...but I dunno about that. Someone on AVS said it had a lower max brightness compared to the Q6 when comparing them.
i paid $150 for the 50 inch. SO 65 inch should be $250 to be a great deal. This is meh !

Anyone think there's a chance black Friday yields a better deal than this on a 65 Q?

Yep! And I don't think the extended holiday policy is in effect now ( I checked best buy for return policy) , but should be posted soon. But we could be wrong, but, I'm waiting for the SUPER BF and CM tv sales to kick in, since we are so close to slick deal time of the year on tv's.

Tempting. My dads 50" 1080p insignia screen has become very dim so may need a replacement tv. Been using a 43" tcl android tv on a mobile tv cart temporarily but larger size would be nice. Could wait a month for black Friday sales

Anyone know if Google tv os has gotten any better? I dealt with a Hisense tv with google once and the lag was awful. I remeber reading that it wasn't the tv but the Google is itself. That was 2 years ago so just wondering if it's improved.

There's a chance, but if it goes lower it won't be by much. There's also a chance it's the same deal with limited stock on Black Friday and it could be difficult to buy it.

This might not be the absolute best deal ever, but it's a good one and if I needed a TV I'd just go ahead and get it now. QLED for $400 is a good buy.

About the same I think. The Google TV OS is actually pretty good if you have decent hardware, it runs very well on the Chromecast 4K. But on every cheap TV I've used that has it, the TV isn't powerful enough to run it smoothly. I'm guessing this TV would be the same but can't confirm it.

I am a fan of the Roku version, which runs smoothly even on cheap TVs.

Very few TVs with middle stands exist anymore. If you want one you need to buy a stand separately. You can get a height adjustable swivel stand for $40. Personally I went cheap and got this stand [amazon.com] for $20. It actually works well because the cable box sits in between the TV legs, but they're still centrally-located enough that my TV can fit on a small piece of furniture.
