Asus has terrible quality control. I have returned 2 of these so far, purchased brand new. Left stick went bad after about a week, the 2nd one had a bad track pad. Oh.. and microSD card also got fried, which Asus really doesn't have a fix for.

"Track Pad"? There isn't one on the Ally. Try again.

Don't get me wrong... ally can handle AAA games very well, something like call of duty series. It can play almost all ps3 and xbox360 games too. That's a big thump up for the ally. If you go w/ the ally, you should upgrade the hard drive to 4TB ssd. Yeah... you heard me, there's an alternative way to upgrade to 4TB by using a regular MVMe m.2 ssd and avoiding cooking micro sd cards. Steam deck, on the other hand, has a big issue w/ cod. I tried to play cod 4 (ps3 version), and it crashed every 10 minutes, what a shame. Other than that steam deck can handle almost anything else. Maybe I should get Lenovo Go so I can play cod games, who knows.
Where is there a 4TB 2230 SSD?

Really good price. Take the savings and upgrade the SSD instead of using a SD card.

Since it's just a bunch of negativity about this device, let me just say, mines been rock solid, no issues day one version. I've modded it now to take a 4tb nvme using one of those transfer boards. Great device even at full price. You just have to know what you're getting into with it being windows and all. SD card still working just fine.

My Ally is solid. At this price, I'm tempted to get another one.

I've also had an amazing experience with my Ally. It's not quite as seamless to use as the Steam Deck, but if you've got even a little bit of knowledge on how to use a modern desktop operating system (Windows/MacOS) then you'll be just fine. The performance to size/weight ratio is off the charts, it's so cool being able to play pretty much any game under the sun on the go (albeit with some settings compromises on the most modern demanding titles) and it is surprisingly quiet. Battery life could be a little better, (~2.5 hours at 10w, >1hr at 20w) but that's pretty much my only gripe.

For those mentioning the Legion Go, one thing to note is that it does not have a VRR screen. Given that you'll definitely struggle hitting a solid 60fps at the native res (or even 800p) with modern titles, you're going to have a big sacrifice on game fluidity/smoothness. IMO that is not worth the tradeoff, but for some the other strengths of the Go may be worth it.

Just make sure you fully test the device. I bought an "excellent" condition one a few months ago and the analog stick was completely jammed and unmovable. They basically don't even look at these before they mark them for resale.

this is the most underrated comment.

I've had a Steam deck since launch and I can't imagine not having a trackpad. i bought the 64 GB version and I'm very happy with it. currently setup dual boot with 3 TB of storage.

Windows OS is what killed all my interest in the ROG Ally. The SteamOS along with small plugins is pretty solid and battery life is great IMO. I didn't hear about the failure rates of microSD cards though thats definitely a no no and with all the problems that faced Asus Warranty and their motherboards the company has lost a lot of credibility. Just my two cents tho~!

It doesn't have a track pad. That could be part of the problem.
