Asus has terrible quality control. I have returned 2 of these so far, purchased brand new. Left stick went bad after about a week, the 2nd one had a bad track pad. Oh.. and microSD card also got fried, which Asus really doesn't have a fix for.

"Track Pad"? There isn't one on the Ally. Try again.

I'd pull the trigger on this if I didn't have one already. Tbh I'm not even sure if my sd card reader is legit. I popped a 2tb SSD in and dgaf lol. I've got plenty of games and about 800mb left in storage for RoboCop and any other goodies

This thing is a beast and this is a great price. Legion go isn't worth looking at because it's too big and too heavy imo. Even wish the Ally was lighter and it's the lightest of these types.

I have no idea why anyone cares about the microSD card reader. The fact is, you shouldn't, and it doesn't even need to be on here. Upgrade the SSD, or don't. That's it.

My joystick and rear trigger failed, so best buy replaced those and the motherboard. Everything works again.

I bought this over the steam deck because it's Windows. If that's not for you, why are you here.

The legion is more expensive and bigger. I want it smaller and thinner and as cheap as possible, because it's my portable machine, and it's my second machine. I still don't understand why ppl want the legion, but if bigger is what you want, then you should get bigger.

I have an x13 as well, so one day, I'm getting that $1500 eGPU with the RTX 3080, and I'm running both of my device with that card. One day...
The legion definitely getting on the too big size. I already feel like the ally is a bit large. Plus I'd really not like the removable controllers.

Ally has been a near perfect device for me, never planned on using SD card and just upgraded the SSD to 2tb.

Ill have Jan to return so we shall see. Biggest miss for me is the lack of USB-4 port. I have a eGPU that would pair well with this.

That sounds terrible. You saved many here of going through the frustration. Asus make excellent hardware for the most part but with this new gadget they have loyally fcked up their QC standard.

Lower the TDP then.
What's the point of dropping $500+ on this device to run it on lower power settings? Might as well buy the myriad of other options for $2-300 if you don't need the horsepower this thing has.

The only reason I'd consider this is to be able to download games on gamepass. I love my steamdeck, but streaming gamepass sometimes sucks.

I received my Legion Go and it's a game changer. I don't even comment often but I needed to because i was blown away. Coming from Steam Deck and Ally and I would gladly pay more for the Legion Go. I knew it was 8.8 inch screen but you really won't gauge how big 8.8 big is until you see it in person. Completely immersive. I love it. Although it was big, it feels extremely light because the density is lower (heavier but bigger so somehow feels light).my only complaint is that legion space is completely garbage. They probably only spent a few weeks on it. It's like a college coding project. However, hopefully they update it over time. The developers were probably rushed and overworked to make the Oct 31 release date. I STRONGLY ADVOCATE FOR THIS MACHINE. If you don't have it, you're missing out

This doesn't even have a track pad so no idea what you're talking about….Ive had one since launch and set up several for friends and so far no issues. Guess your store just got a bad batch 🤷🏾 ♂️

For decent gaming battery life in the three or so hours you need to game at 10 Watts. The Z1 Extreme just doesn't do as well as the Steam Deck at this wattage. Steam Deck is the way to go for portable 10 Watt gaming.

I run the Ally at custom settings at 18 watts as I find that is the best balance between performance and battery life. I get 90 minutes to 2 hours that way and that tradeoff works for me for the boost in performance.
The steam deck is a great machine to play games from 2020. It doesn't play modern games very well. The video game verification system just sucks.

It is more of emulator than modern gaming device. It might have battery life but if it can't handle a lot of recent games then what purpose does it serve?

Remember a lot of people are steam zealots and not video game fans. They lie to overinflate the value of Valve for reasons I don't understand.
