I don't think this is the case. The performance difference between a 2050 and 4GB 3050 is a few percent. The naming is confusing because apparently the 2050 in these laptops was released after the 3050 and is a cut down version. Source: https://youtu.be/MIimIAMv7sk

With DLSS, this laptop is "totally viable" for running modern /2023 AAA games according to this video (skip to 22 min) https://youtu.be/ySc1e-vIm9Q

The benefit of using a low TDP GPU and CPU is that the machine runs cooler and significantly quieter than most gaming laptops. Some report even cooler temps after repasting

My buddy got this and put in another stick of DDR5 RAM (his was 5600 but ymmv) that he got off eBay for <$25, which brought him to 16GB. For sub $500, I think this deal is hard to beat.

That's a great question. RAM's pretty easy, just do your best to avoid static discharge. You should be able to find the replacement procedure on YT. I'd immediately upgrade to 16GB, 32 if the prices are decent. RAM is pretty cheap these days, I don't really know why the manufacturers are skimping on it.

I picked this up today from Best Buy and have started using it. Definitely needs more RAM -- I ordered an 8GB stick from ebay. The RAM that comes with the laptop is from Samsung, part # M425R1GB4BB0-CWMOD. I've attached a few CPU-Z screenshots and a photo of the RAM.

At the moment this is one of the best options. Just to compare In August of 2022 I picked up a like new excellent https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell...Id=6461724 from bestbuy for $570 so if you wait and hunt around deals of this caliber can be had at a similar price (I ended up selling that laptop to my buddy though and got an Alienware that has also been sold). If you want a solid entry level laptop and want one now, even with a ram upgrade, you're in the under $500 number you're looking for (immediately upgrade ram though). I would snag this no doubt if that's your price point or the MSI below or wait a month or two if time isn't a factor, big sales coming up soon. I like the appearance of these laptops too as I bought one with the 1650 GPU but it was a bit too slow and the screen was not that good (open box from micro center for like $350 I think) and ended up returning it for the Asus G15 AE (I don't like my Asus appearance as much though as its way too gamer lol).

I did see this one, and was happy to see it at such a low price. However, the stick that came in mine has a 5600 MHz rating, while this one has a 4800 MHz rating. I believe if you put this in, the original stick would be limited to 4800 MHz as well.

There seems to be an abundant supply of the m425r1gb4bb0-cqk [samsung.com] (4800 MHz) sticks on the market, hence the lower prices, as compared to the m425r1gb4bb0-cwm [samsung.com] (5600 MHz) version.
