Seeing the same price and I have a military discount. Figure out a solution?
You've got to specifically login to your AAA account and go to discounts, or search for Samsung after you login. It took a bit for my wife and I to figure it out.

I would say with confidence a $1k setup with a receiver and speakers would blow this out of the water.

My entire klipsch 5.1 reference setup was $699 I think, on sale course.

A big thing with sound is you need bigger speakers for better sound. It's simple. You ever see a movie theater or concert using sound bars lol? Bigger speakers generally equal better sound.

I'm honestly shocked to see a soundbar this expensive get so much attention. People just don't want to do the work associated with a full setup, but it's worth it beyond words.
I think for some it's the wires. I have a 5.1 setup in my basement. It was a pain drilling and getting the wires through the walls, then the painting and minimal patch up work.

This setup doesn't require all that and you still get a decent sound. Just without all that hassle.

Ive got a 10k system in my basement, Revel bookshelves, 3 15" subs. It can't be beat. But you can't have that in your living room. And as I get older I care less about sound quality.

Anyway, I picked up a 300ish Samsung bar and couldn't be happier. Honestly I like it so much I'm waiting for this 48" bar to come back down and will be putting my current one in the bedroom. That's the great thing about soundbars. Plug and play whenever u like with minimal effort. That's an added value I'd be glad to pay....for a certain price.

i got this last time for $700 - 10% cb from certain cb site (max $50) - 5% chase/papyal so ended up about $618+tax. haven't had a chance to set it up yet but it will be replacing a q950a for primary home theater setup on an 85" qn90a in the media room. 950a will be moved to another room in the house. q950a huge bang for the buck and the 990c is supposed to be improved.

at this price this stands toe to toe with sonos at almost 3x the price. its a strong contender for anyone looking for quality sound experience with a simple plug and play atmos setup without having to run wires all over the place. those who downplay these high end soundbars should listen to them first. it will be more than good enough for vast majority of the average consumer.

Got this a couple months ago.

Sounds good but what do I know?

I do have complaints though.

- I have it connected to my ARC HDMI port on my TCL 55P605. It won't activate unless I turn my laptop which is connected to one of the other HDMI ports via splitter.

The wifi never stays connected.

It doesn't use Google. Only Bixby or Alexa.

Sometimes my TCL Roku TV remote works... sometimes it just... doesn't. Like it'll show the volume number on screen but doesn't actually change anything. The number won't go up and down.

Any real downside of pairing this Samsung Q990C with a Sony A90J tv?

While I'd love to stick within the Sony brand for a soundbar system, I'm struggling with paying 2x the cost to stick within the Sony brand…A-7000 w/ Sub and rears.

I don't think most would disagree with you but I'll counter your point with this phrase "Perfect is the enemy of good." By that I mean even a discreet setup requires a good bit of effort, tuning, etc. And even then hiding wires, aesthetics and foot print may be an undesired end state. These "set it and forget it" setups are perfect for people that want "good enough" sound without the hassle of discreet. I used to have a discreet 6.1 setup. When I moved I just didn't have the energy, patience or time to redo it all. A sound bar setup was good enough for me. For audiophiles who want the best sound and don't mind the footprint, they will most likely already be aware that discreet trumps sound bar.

Probably a stupid question but I'll ask it anyways.

How does it sound without the surrounds? Can setup the soundbar and the subwoofer but the surrounds may not work for us. Both for aesthetic and practical reasons.
I could be wrong but the q900c I think is the same sound bar without the rears, just the bar and sub. Should be ~$250 cheaper.

Oh man, I feel pretty dumb not realizing this before.

Thanks for pointing this out. Looks like it's just under $600 right now so not too bad at all.
