1. Get one number for phone calls and texts ONLY. You are known to others (friends, banks, insurance companies...) by that number. Use a very cheap plan that has little to no data for it.
2. Get another number for data ONLY. Switch to the cheapest you can find every a few months. You are always a new user because you don't need to port in your number for it.

Not if you have a "dual SIM" phone.

With two SIMs active in one phone, you can use one for calls/texts, and the other for data.

Boost Mobile is THE WORST COMPANY I have ever dealt with. I would not sign up with them again if you'd pay me $15 per month. I value my time and nerves way more than that amount of money.

I had boost for nearly 6 months and planning to leave them in early December when my 6 months will be over. This is the worst service I have ever had. I have purchased the SIM card from Best Buy. I do run into issues making phone calls, when I placed the call it will simply hang up when I press dial. Typically happens during peak hours. Internet is awful regardless of hours and happens randomly. I disabled 5G and run it on 4G LTE and it helped a bit (old trick I have learnt using Ultra mobile). I have T-Mobile via dish network apn. Prior to that I had Ultra mobile and never had so many issues. Planning to switch to mint and then try to come back to boost with att service. If you buy sim from BestBuy you will get T-Mobile service. I went to the store and opened several tickets with their service department. The sales clerk made up all kinds of stories about my sim being the latest and being able to support all three providers (mobile, dish, att) to Samsung S23 ultra supporting satellite service... I did run into one honest CR who said the only way to switch to ATT is to leave the company and come back. There is additional tax with the service when you renew, but no ridiculous recovery fee that mint mobile has...

I can't trust them after the cyber attack they had earlier this year. I tried to port out and ended up losing my number because all their servers were in containment due to the cyber attack. Customer service was nonexistent and they only had an automated system for payments no account changes and you could not even access your own account to get the account number and pin to port out. It's so sad that a company this big did not have a recovery plan and took them nearly a month to somewhat restore account access. Never again.

Ok, so I've been with Boost for 9 month, bought this plan from best buy and got moto edge+ 2022. Have ported out today.
Coverage is complete shit.
Network and carrier reliability is the same.
Moto edge+ 2022 is awesome, can be unlocked via ebay for $5.99. Got it for around $200 in March.
To port out you need account # from boost app and pin that you can get only by phone. Pin is 6-digit and you won't find it anywhere. Was able to get it for about 10min. Port out to total by verizon went smooth, took 5 min overall and was made online.

Boost AT&T is a good choice; don't buy SIM from Best Buy, Target, or Walmart.

So on the data phone you just get a new number each time? Am I reading it correctly?

I ported out from Boost last week just before my 3 month $15 for 3months,5gb per month expired. I made one call, it was answered in less than 5 min; I asked for my port out PIN, and they transferred me to another number where they asked if I already had a new service I was transferring to and when I said I did, they looked up my transfer PIN and gave it to me. Process took about 5 min.

I provided the transfer PIN to my new provider and it was successfully transferred in less than 10 min and my number was usable on my new service (Tello e-sim) in that time.

Three months earlier, I had ported the number into Boost from Mint Mobile and that also was done easily in about 10 minutes.

EDIT: Get your account number from Boost, either by asking them when you call them, or from your Boost account. You will need your address, and other account info as well as the official Port out PIN ( different from your Boost Account PIN), in order to port out.

Yep. Having a temporary phone number can also be useful sometimes for questionable places asking for your number.
