If you have kids or just hate advertisements, these are actually probably the best streaming device on the market because you can add kid profiles to the device which completely eliminates all advertising on the home screen. We keep ours in that mode all the time. You can still install all the normal apps on the kid profile and then just use the apps as usual.

I starting using this a few weeks ago and now get why some people say it's a bit laggy/slow.

Even after reducing the animation time via dev options and uninstalling apps, still a bit slow and clunky.

The cool thing is that you can side load a certain YouTube app that block ads.

Quote from USFmarine :
My Chromecast 4k with Google TV suddenly has a new stutter/judder every 5-10 seconds while watching with the Bally Sports+ app. No other streaming app has this new stutter. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app and it persists. Given how much I watch hockey it has me thinking about dropping the whole platform. It was perfect (in its own laggy way) for a year until this issue. Frustrating.
Go through your apps and clear the cache on all of them. Also you may be close on your storage limitations. If you have any apps that you don't use, delete them. You can always reinstall in the future. This will help, but no guarantee it will eliminate your issues.

Same price at Target with local pickup available and potential for 5% Red Card discount.

Does anyone know the status of the supposed update to this device that was rumored to be announced at Samsung's event on Oct 4 (but never was announced)?

Make sure you're Ok with lack of support Dolby Vision in 4k. The media will play but the colors are off.
The highest resolution it supports Dolby vision is 1080p.

Can you still cast xfinity cable from your phone to the chromecast outside your home?

Is this better than a Roku Streaming Stick 4k+?

Have one, love it, I'm nerdy so I've done a bit more with it than most.

First of all I need extra storage, the 4GB just isn't enough when you put Kodi on it and have a big movie collection like I do - it doesn't have room for the cover art and what have you. Even if it's the only thing on the device you need to add storage because there's a per-app limit on main storage I guess?

I got an Anker 332 hub and it worked great to add storage (and USB ports for game controllers too). The Nintendo Switch mini-dock that was so cool on here a few weeks back does not work. (For USB - it does work to power it up)

I also have an Nvidia Shield TV - the experiences are very similar between the two, but this one is 1/8th the price of the Shield TV. If you're serious about games, having more built in storage and built in USB ports so you don't have to do all the extra like I did, you might be better off going Nvidia, but for 95% of the people out there, this is probably a better choice.

Better than messing with a Roku any day of the week, yes I've used that extensively.

I've connected my converted to Blue-Tooth mode Stadia controller to it. (My Stadia controller actually came with a different ChromeCast)

I have to say, dollar for dollar it's the best TV device on the market, most people won't need to nerd out like I did, but if you want to nerd out, I gave pointers.

Can a hub support a couple xbox controllers connected via usb cable or is it bluetooth only? Lol was thinking of trying to play some android coop games

Also I tried putting movies on a usb stick to see if this chromecast can play it directly off that... Couldn't figure it out. Asked me to reformat the drive on chromecast but when I plug it back into the pc, it wouldn't recognize it after it was formatted via chromecast.

This thing is fairly long in the tooth. I sold my laggy Chromecast 4k and going to try a Fire stick 4k max (about the same price).
I actually heard that the new version of the Onn box from Walmart kinda kicks a$$ for what it is. I personally prefer the Chromecast to the Fire devices (I have multiple Fire Sticks, including the newest 4K but not Max, a 1st gen FireTV Cube, multiple Chromecasts, and a few of the Onn boxes, but I never put them into actual use). Hoping the new version of the Chromecast, when it comes out, will be a worthy device.

My stadia control connects with Bluetooth. I use USB with the kids because it's easier. I found with the switch dock thing not all USB chips will work but there's a high compatibility. I used a Dell dock with it once. Power was good. Ethernet was good. USB was good but the introduction of sound chips in the dock rerouted sound away from HDMI so I couldn't use that. Not enough control. I've never tried a movie directly on a USB device, but I'm sure it would work somehow. I use Kodi with my Linux machine holding the movies.

Yea I have plex but wanted to see if this works without internet and I can just watch movies directly off the usb stick.

The 4K model is still the same design from 2020 and IMO it's due for a refresh to support WiFi 6, AV1 codec, 64-bit apps, etc.. (I hope Google will also make an Ultra version with WiFi 6E and 4K 120Hz.)

Until then the $20 ONN Android TV 4K could be a better choice. It's still WiFi 5 but already got AV1 video support.

Debating whether I should get this or ONN tv stick. Can you do screen mirroring on ONN android TV like the chromecast Home app cast function?

4k model came out before the 1080p one. There's only 2 iterations of this Chromecast
