Chiaki software + Tailscale + ROG Ally/Legion Go/Steam Deck should get you all set up with playing PS5 on the go

The PS Portal doesn't really do anything except for offering a "portal" to your PS5. The capabilities of this ASUS ROG Ally are far beyond the portal.

Any beat up old tablet/smartphone can do what PS Portal does. 😂

Thx! I need 2rd controller, and also PS portal is less money. I am asking mysef, do I play pc game on-the-go?
Remember this truth. To play PC games and having the ability to play PC games are two different reasons for purchase. I don't play PC games but I am passionate about having that ability. For what reason? I don't know. It is the way of the SD spirit. Buy now, process later. Feel happy, accomplish nothing.

I bought another PC last year at this time, waited for a deal on a 3070 and didn't play one PC game all year. Picked this up and I've already installed like 10-15 games. Started replaying Cyberpunk and The Last Of Us, as well as dragon age origin via Xbox game pass. ROG Ally is going to help me so I don't have to drag my Xbox to the inlaws every few months.

Anyone buy a used one from BB? I stopped by my local BB and the one listed Good condition for $491 was grimy like lotion, skin, dirt ground in the back. Decided to order a Excellent used for $504 and see how it goes...
How was the excellent?

That means u got value. But the need to buy things bc u will use it is not the primary way of SD'ers. The path for most SD'ers is to stock up on items that we don't really need or even use. We might use it but our ability to use it is reason enough for us to buy it if it's a -slick- deal. And that is perfectly ok.

Slow free shipping so its not arriving until this weekend. Its being shipped from NC which is on the other side of the US from me. You'd think BB would have some closer but maybe its their main distrobution refurb hub.

Excellent condition came in with a cracked open left side!!! The screen looked perfect... Back to the store it went... Ordered another one... Now delayed shipping... Didn't want to order 3 or even 2 as they can just close your account for excessive returns...

The Steam Deck OLED is weaker. SD has a 4 core Zen2 processor. The Ally/Go have an 8 core Zen4 processor. The SD has an 8 compute unit RDNA2 iGPU, while the Ally/Go have a 12 compute unit RDNA4 iGPU.

All while this Ally 512GB deal costs $50 less than the Steam OLED 512GB. Slickdeals is all about telling people about the best bang for your buck, not arguing about which console you like better. But if youre willing to go for the older Steamdeck LCD model, it becomes very good price to performance wise. That could be had for $400 for the 256GB model.
RDNA4? I didn't know that was out already...

Thanks for sharing. I keep going back and forth between ordering one of the used models from BB but this is exactly what holds me back. Too much hassle ordering and returning hoping for a good one.

I did order 3 at the end and honestly all 3 units were good. I kept the most recent one dated 6/2023... Returned others...

Just a side thought, could this be a desktop replacement? Runs with keyboard and mouse? Apparently the line is coming with a mini PC version of this. Dock it station.

Are you referring to hardware (like warranty) or software support? Since it runs windows you don't really need any software support from Asus. For example, I've installed updated AMD graphics drivers that Asus has not provided.
Windows 10 or 11? Bc I know win 10 ends 2025.

Or if you have a decent phone the Gamsir 8 is a nice option. My foldable phone in that should make a nice setup.
