Can you please link to some evidence of this? I own a 2021 M1Pro 14" MBP and I haven't had any heating issues, and my understanding is that M2Pro and M3Pro are *more* efficient at dissipating heat, not less.

Certainly a 16" MBP is going to be cooler than a 14", simply by virtue of the increased chassis area to circulate and expel air. Commensurately, a 14" will throttle before a 16" does--but I've never read anything that suggests that translates into legitimate "problems" with heat. Every laptop eventually throttles. It's part of the spec.
THIS is what I've been waiting for for the last 6 months in order to upgrade my 2020 M1 that foolishly was purchased with 8gb memory. This is the sweet spot as far as I'm concerned, great deal, thanks OP!
I've had this model for a few weeks now and it hasn't even gotten warm yet, it's crazy. Most of my time has been in logic, video streaming, steam game streaming from my pc, and general tasks. I'm not editing 4k video or anything but I feel this could handle it without overheating. This is my first MBP since the 13" I owned in 2011. Holy cow what a massive leap in technology since then.

you see a lot of 14" sales because they're bad - a lot of heating issues. Do your research before you buy the 14" model.
Don't tell me you fell prey to the FUD spread by the Max Tech guy!!

Says… who? I have a launch-day 14" and have had zero issues with heat. I've actually logged and compared temperatures while powering a 49" ultrawide and then two Studio Displays along with full utilization of day-to-day apps. The fan barely turns on.

The 14" has no heating issues; don't suggest otherwise unless you have specific evidence and you're an owner.
True. Same boat. I have the m3 max with 16/40 cores and never have faced a heating issue. To the contrary it is a wonderful relief from the windows laptops that are essentially steam engines with those intel processors

It's true that the Max version of the 14" will throttle the CPU while the 16" version won't, but this is the Pro version of the CPU which doesn't have those issues on the 14" model.

So I did this deal on BF with Best Buy -but for the M3 Max. To be honest, I'd just buy directly from Apple and have them price match. Apple will price match any discount within 10% ($1799 is 'exactly' 10%). What happened with me is that I felt the M3 MAX 36gb wasn't enough, however, Best Buy only offers up to that model. In retrospect, I should've price matched with Apple which would have given me the chance to upgrade without having to go through more hoops.

You can easily spend the same or more for a Dell. This is a much better laptop in every way.

Why is it always space black on sale? 😑

Because they want people to buy the pro version... And upgrade ram and storage and CPU until they end up with a M3 Max 16 core 64 Gb like me.

Just got Silver with same config @ $1614 Open Box Excellent.

Was this at Best Buy? The silvers seem especially discounted, but I've never seen the space black get that low—unfortunately. And unfortunately I am that superficial.

Actually any version can throttle.

The max version does not throttle unless you start putting it under some really heavy continuous artificial load (the type that Max Tech will pick and choose). Heck, the fans don't even turn on for quite a while after some heavy cpu/gpu intensive work.

Or you see a lot of sales since Apple is pushing this new model and MacBook laptop sales are down due totaling the economy. Alternately the M1 Pro is great and the m2 pro is 15% better than an M1 Pro and this m3 pro is really only a good upgrade from Intel Mac.

Best bang for the buck is a m1 air
Second best is M1 Pro for developers. A M1 Max, M1 Pro can too also too albeit slower. It can handle LLm with 7B parameters so it's hard to justify upgrading from m1 to m3.

If you get paid to create content then I would get a M1 Max and upgrade to the m3 once
The m6 is out. However if you have more than 300k subscribers you can write off an m3 max, so spend your money however you want.

What's the normal workflow which would cause the throttling? Curious as to what caused your throttling?

The 14-inch M3 Pro with 36GB of RAM and 512GB SSD is $1999 at Adorama after a $400 discount ($200 instant, $200 coupon). I refrained from posting the deal because it requires a coupon code from Apple Insider, and I don't want the mods breathing down my neck saying that I broke rules https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima.../emot-LMAO.gif
Great deal -- thanks for flagging. I still couldn't beat the deal for the base (don't need the extra ram--wish it was for a 1tb), but never thought about checking that site regularly for deals.

Same. They even gave me $700 for my 13" M1. I can't complain. Those MC refurbs tempted me for a while. This is a huge generational leap. Absolutely love the Midnight finish.
