I'd take this over the 2024 model that should be available in 6-months. OLED would be nice to get around their persistent backlight problems, but productivity-use still burns in rapidly on the latest OLED monitor displays, and of course the 2024 model has non-upgradable RAM (16GB is the base size for 2024, and may be all that Best Buy will get you for these sales), and goes from a magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis to plain aluminum. They also needed a third fan to help the limited cooling potential in the 2024 model.
IMO, this is the machine to get in a 14-inch today. Especially with G-Helper installed to kill off Armory crate, greatly dropping the idle power usage of the machine, and providing additional "undervolting." 5GHz all-core under CPU load is possible on this G14, at 78W CPU power draw. Of course this tapers off as TDP is pulled with the GPU loaded.

fyi, I am considering this for programming(java, python, docker, etc..), mediocre Video editing and occasional gaming. Any inputs? Thanks!!!
Love the Legion 5, but mainly use it with my 34" 165hz monitor, but it won't display anything on it or the laptop itself it the monitor is connected to it while I turn it on. If I unplug it and then connect the monitor after is turned on it works fine, but is annoying having to do this every time. And is not my monitor, I've tried other monitors and even a projector and does the same thing either using hdmi or usb c to display port.
That's exactly what happened when I tried to buy an open box Legion 3 days ago. I bought a new HP Omen through HP on Black Friday, solid laptop but had some plastic hardware issues where one part of screen bezel and lid are not firmly attached to each other and will make clicky noise when pressed, so I asked tech support if it's just a minor cosmetic problem or not, if it is I will live with it, but tech support told me it's serious and the gap will widen over time, so I asked an HP sales rep for an exchange (still in return period), sales rep told me I'll need to return the laptop to their warehouse first for them to verify and then get the replacement unit 5 weeks later. Holy cow 5 weeks for a brand new exchange. I decided to jump to BestBuy and buy an open box Legion then I experienced what you're facing. Anyway, the Legion is coming tomorrow, I've decided if I like it I will return the HP, but if not, I will keep the HP and see how my luck goes with the "bezel gap that widen over time".
In case anyone is interested, the HP was $800 and Legion open box $890, both at 7840HS + 4060. I think $800-$900 is the sweet price for 4060. I would have jumped on this G14 open box excellent ($871 when I checked just now) if I hadn't had a surface pro already for traveling, and only needed a fat gaming laptop as a desktop replacement. G14 is solid for both lightweight and performance. However, pay attention to Asus warranty policy, as I heard for open box units Asus will only honor warranty for 90 days instead of the-rest-of-warranty-duration-from-the-first-time-it-was-bought as other brands.
