From my understanding XFinity/Comcast has been increasing upload speeds in some areas. If you got an email it probably means your area. For increased upload speed you need an OFDMA compatible device like the CODA56. S33 will currently not work if you want increased upload speeds.

List of devices compatible with "Next Gen Speed Tier". [xfinity.com] Again, this only applies if you got an email about increased upload speeds

Edit: If you don't mind 35mbps upload cap or you're not on a plan that would even get you enhanced upload speeds this modem still works great for Xfinity/Comcast.

You shouldn't be getting charged for those tech visits. Ask for a supervisor if you're dealing with someone over the phone.

250mbps on a 1gbps plan is a line issue, not a modem issue. Likely a splitter or cable run that has gone bad. they should be able to see signal at the tap and node without having to visit your house first. If all of those are fine, then you should be testing speeds AT THE MODEM. Not your PC or anything post modem, at your modem. That's all they have to supply. Anything past that is your responsibility.

Hitron CODA56. It's around the same price as the S33 and also has the 2.5G port.
But that Hitron CODA56 is on their list , but not recommended by Comcast/Xfinity. So it will work but they are saying that could not get the full speed what the xfinity is offering.

can't test speeds over wifi, has to be tested directly connected to the modem

Bought this modem 2 months ago. Regularly getting 1300 Mbps download and 40 Mbps upload over Ethernet on our 1200/35 Xfinity plan. No issues so far.
Note: To pull speeds over 1000 Mbps, the router and switch need to support multi-gigabit speeds as well.
as well as a motherboard with a 2.5 gigabit port.

I have exact same problem. If you have an Asus router and the option QoS is turn on, the max download from your router to PC is 700mb or less even if you set 100% with QoS. And even though ping TTL against nearest comcast server showing great. This issue is with Asus router only, not sure for other brands but could definitely try.

I did a test with PC connected straight to modem bypassing Asus router and I am getting full 1gb as advertise and ping TTL is excellent.

So after turning off QoS, all wired PC is now getting full 1gb.
I have a TP-Link modem and I will check it. I'm sure I didn't turn on the QoS, but it may be set as the default for some reason. Thank you for the suggestion.

I have the QoS off on my DECO AXE5400 and it still doesn't get close to the 1gb DL on my Xfinity plan.

Any modem rated for 1GB mean it up to and will never hit 1GB. You need to get a modem that can handle 2.5GB which what Xfinity are suggesting if you want to get the full 1Gb.

Previously own SB8200 and it support 1Gb but the highest I got was 960Mb. Order the Hitron Coda 56 and voila 1.2Gb down and 100Mb up. By the way Hitron Coda56 is on Xifinity supported list for 1Gb plan and up.

Is there only one model for the Hitron Coda56 ? I would like to take advantage of my speed and want to buy a reliable modem without rebooting all the time

Coda56 is the only recommended modem for Xfinity. I've only own this modem for a month so far it been working fine no issues. My previous SB8200 worked for about 8 months than I need to restart 2-3x a day. Arris techsupport keep dancing around and say if I want a replacement, it will be a refurbished modem which is a return and I know it will end up the same thing.

To get the speed per Xfinity advertise you need to be close to their server which you can do a PING and see the TTL respond. Other factor is that if many of your neighbor is also heavy user than speed also get slow down as well.
