Leak Detection & Auto Shutoff is a nice addition. This is a good deal in recent post-covid price inflation for a 50 gallon.

Just a word of caution, you would safe a lot if you install it yourself. Make sure it has good access for service calls from the top otherwise water would need to be drained to be tip over for top access.

I bought this last year for around this price during a sales tax holiday. The unit is good and efficient, using less than 1/3 of the energy of the previous electric water heater it replaced. However, if installing this yourself be sure to open the top and double check that the anode rod is fully tightened and preferably has thread seal and/or teflon tape applied. I installed the unit only to have it leak from the top at the anode rod, which triggered the auto shut off. Then when I went to tighten the anode rod, the plastic guide was misaligned making it difficult to mount with a socket wrench. I also noticed some cuts in the foam insulation on the airflow output box due to poor workmanship, and a loose screw was in the drain pan. Could have just been a late Friday unit, but something to be wary of as their QA process didn't catch these things.

I just bought the 65 gallon version of this unit to replace the 11 year old GE Geospring model I got for free with rebate. I absolutely love these heat pump water heaters and will never go back. The only reason I'm replacing it is because the plumbing inspector is requiring a larger capacity because I'm adding a bathroom.

Seattle area customers can get another $500 off instantly with a couple through SCL, PUD, or PSE making the deal even sweeter than just the IRS tax credit.

I've read similar QC issues and plan to go over the unit carefully before I install. Also FYI Menards has the best price by 60%+ competitors on the inlet/outlet ducting adapters if you want to take on that additional scope for reduced noise and increased efficiency:

Here's my personal tip - get the biggest size you can. The savings will still be there. If you are using these as designed, the recovery time will be much longer, especially in a colder climate. For this reason, I suggest getting a bigger one, especially if your home does not use low flow shower heads.

I just installed an 80gallon a few weeks ago and the savings was immediately noticeable. Also, in Mass there is a $750 point of sale rebate available.

Anyone have any thoughts on the noise these things make? Really want to replace my 20 year old water heater with a hybrid model but our water heater sits in the attic close to the bedroom.

Do you have to show proof of residency for the instant state rebate? I travel a lot. Wonder if I could just pick these up on a trip from a state with a rebate?

This requires space from which it can pull in air. You may need to have a louvered door. Honestly, if its in a hallway within the living area, I'd skip. The hum will definitely be noticeable. I have it in a basement so it's a nonissue.
