Where do you get the open box ones from?

Open boxes are hard to come by, seems like every few months they come up. If you just want to buy then 1050 is a good price.
I think monoprice amps are uniquely flawed but I can't prove it. I had two open box subwoofers and both amps would shut off after a few minutes. Doing some research it was apparently a widespread problem, at least on the avsforums. There was even a guy who knew what the problem was and would fix it for a fee. Can I prove monoprice amps are less reliable than svs, etc? No. But no company publishes their reliability numbers, so you have to go on anecdote. My anecdote is that two failed and my Rythmik did not. And there is a community of people on avsforums who say this amp is unreliable. I know this isn't definitive info but, honestly, you'll never get reliable info. Just anecdotes.
Replacing the amp is problematic. It's a plate amp and can't guarantee that any plate amp you'll buy will fit. I know parts express and Dayton audio won't work. My work around, if the amps failed again and I can't replace, is to run the wires through the back to an external amp like a Behringer nu3000 or equivalent. I've heard of people installing binding posts to do this so it's doable.
I agree this is the best subwoofer for the price. Just accept that the amp reliability *may* be lower but is a fixable problem. I gave this a thumbs up but wanted to share my experience.

When I said partsexpress, that was not for replacement amps for this sub. I was referring to buying UM 18 drivers, and building your own sub enclosures or purchasing Marty ported enclosures. I tried this with sealed enclosures from PE and crown drive core amp, but sold them as I liked the response of the ported ones better, on tuning with a minidsp and umik.

I'm pointing all this out because this sub is a $1000 investment and amp failure for monoprice subs is well documented. Does this mean the true failure rate is worse compared to other vendors like SVS or Hsu? I can't say but, with my experience, I'd wager its worse. Because of this I've made plans to deal with a broken amp if monoprice can't. I think this is still a good deal but know what you're walking into.

Plate amps are difficult to repair (almost impossible to find schematics), and could require some woodworking skills to retrofit with a different brand.

So if it helps anyone, I have both of my M12s protected by a power filter.Absolutely no amp issues in the last 5 plus years, in case that has anything to do with it.
A little video.
