This one. Q80C is $4,000 more, has like 1/16 the dimming zones, isn't as bright, etc. You're paying for the Samsung name with that one mostly. It'll be better in certain aspects but not $4k better.

I got this when it was $4.5K at BestBuy during the holidays. Coming from an LG C1 OLED, once adjusted this gets very close to OLED contrast and colors but brighter than my C1 which makes this more suitable for a living room. Gaming + Video Content has been amazing.

When moving, movers could NOT get this up my staircase AND scratched my walls. Had to hire more professional furniture movers to hoist this through a balcony door (it was still tight then), it slipped and almost dropped twice. Getting insurance on this during the move at a reasonable price was also hard. Goodluck getting this into your home if you have more than 1 floor.

Just wish I could see a true comparison review between the u76 and this to know if its worth the hassle of returning the u76 and mounting the u8 along with the 1k price increase

This or the Samsung 98" Q80C?
I really wanted the 98" Samsung, mostly because I've had good experience with the Samsung TVs I've gotten and the XBox Game Pass Ultimate feature with an XBox controller is pretty awesome! (Local multiplayer games don't seem to work though).

Even at the lowest EPP prices during Black Friday/Superb Owl sales, I couldn't justify the Q80c cost, especially with all the $2k-$3k TVs.

I'm really hoping Samsung steps it up with the 2024 lineup to be more competitive, so I'm holding out for now.

From everything I've read, I should be setting aside my brand loyalty to Samsung and get one of these. I'm stubborn, but would suggest this deal instead.

This is a highly rated set on rtngs. I got the tcl xl 98" late last year when this one was never in stock. If I had the choice, I would get this set. But too much of a pain to swap now. I would get an extended warranty with in home service any set of this size, regardless of brand. You don't want to deal with trying to take anywhere if it breaks.

I was hoping Samsung or the Sony XL90 would drop in price.

But the 2K-3K deals on these are basically a no brainier when the others are asking for more than double.

U8K is rated really well. The only concern they keep bringing up is reliability and upscaling and software issues. Software is not really a concern as I would be using this only as a display ( PC/Apple TV/Xbox via AVR and external speakers). Upscaling won't be used as my sources can beat any TV upscaling out there.

That leaves reliability as the major concern. Given the pricing I would be happy if this lasts half as long as other brands. Consider an extended warranty if this is concerning to you.

Even if you were to pay more, your other options are not that great either. If you see reviews, U8K wins on many picture quality metrics.

I have 100U8K on order from bestbuy that is scheduled to be installed towards end of month. Praying to get mine in perfect condition and hoping never to get any issues with it.

I'd avoid the extended warranty- they're rarely worth it. The base warranty from Hisense will cover in-home service for this TV. Two year warranty and if you pay with a visa or Mastercard credit card, with the exception of some cards, you'll get an extra year added to that. So three years total.

Unfortunately mine was defective out of the box. Picture was good but the tv emitted a high pitch/ringing sound. Hisense wouldn't replace it because they said they didn't have any stock. BestBuy couldn't replace it because they didn't have any stock. I had my 77" OLED moved from my theater room and mounted elsewhere. So now I unfortunately have a 13.2.4 setup with no tv. I told Hisense I would keep the tv until they got stock in and they flat out said no. Had geek squad come back out and pick it up for a return.

Just pulled the trigger. Anyone have experience mounting this thing? Can me and the wife do it? Or should I hire some help?

Will women find me even more attractive if I own this TV?
If you can carry this with you then yes. It's a very large heavy TV and some women still appreciate a man with physical strength.

Good points, thanks for sharing.

On the pricing, I've seen the Q80C for $3,500-$4,000 with EPP pricing so that was my comparison point. Completely agree it wouldn't even be a discussion at $7k but seemed reasonable to compare at $500-$1000 more.

depends on if you and the wife can lift half of the 150 pounds (with mount, depending on mount)

be smart, dont end up on /r/TVTooHigh/

and you just need a flush mount, no need for a full motion.

Definitely doable but I'd try and recruit a friend to help. Two people can do it but it'll be a struggle if your wife is short / not very strong. Having someone in the middle helping lift and guide makes it much easier.

Second what someone else says— don't mount it too high. I have mine mounted 29 inches from the bottom to the ground which many would still consider not ideal either. Go for a tilt mount or flush. Tilt will help if you mount it a little higher than recommended and also help access HDMI/other ports if you didn't plan ahead and hook everything up including unused cables beforehand.
