It has 4GB eMMC storage on board.

Which means that it does have a finite life, and can't be replaced.

Whether that's a factor in practical usage depends on what the chip is rated for, and how much recording is done.

With Ring jacking up their price for users on the lowest plan, I've started looking into alternatives.

They all seem to have small compromises in some fashion, and what I dislike about the Eufy is that it isn't compatible with existing built-in chimes. I don't want to rely on a plug-in.

Also takes a leap of faith to buy from a company that obfuscated, and resisted acknowledging their privacy lapses, before finally coming clean [theverge.com].
Been using this since 2020 and no issues. Survives MN winters/summers, good buy in my book.
FYI: Requires Existing Doorbell Wires

Which you do you really recommend instead of this one and blink? Thank you!
I just started looking, and haven't really formed an opinion yet.

As an Apple user, the HomeKit Secure Video feature of the Logitech appeals to me, but the complaints about hardware durability issues give me pause. Plus, it seems abnormally thick in form.

Like I said, all of them seem to have +/- so it's going to depend on your own priorities, and these experiences are very YMMV.

I've had a Ring Pro since 2018, and it has been smooth sailing, but that hasn't been true for many users.

Quote from helloroad :
I think Ring is increasing the yearly charge to $50 in March
Yep, they've targeted those who aren't on the higher tier plans. I only have the doorbell, and don't plan to buy anything else Ring so I'll never need to go to a higher plan. My term doesn't roll over until September, so I have some time to figure it out.

Quote from Toe :
Eufy models that have a battery can be used with existing chimes. Like the E340 can be used wired or wireless.
Good to know, but the fact that it's a battery-powered unit that serves both wired and wireless roles also gives me pause.

Lithium batteries don't like to live life at full charge; it shortens their lifetime, and leads to things like swelling.

If Eufy didn't take that into account and employ a BMS with smart logic, and the battery is constantly "topped up" as they say in the description, then that's an engineering compromise.

Sure, that's offset by the fact that the battery is replaceable, but I'm still not enamored by that approach.

I used mine with the door chime I have. There is an option in the app.... Maybe I have an older model?

Great doorbell!

According to their manual, it has a micro SD card slot in the chime (to be plugged to an indoor AC outlet paired with the doorbell).

I ordered one and will confirm if this works as their other camera models that support local storage.

You probably read the wrong manual.

With cheap WiFi jammers easily available, when will there be a wired connection with WiFi? Someone we know recently almost became victims of home invasions because the suspects used WiFi jammer to jam their WiFi signal. Good thing they had a wired camera system also on the property. One of the suspects saw the wired camera and signaled to the other to leave.

Works poorly with Alexa ecosystem if you're invested. Very slow to bring up the image and doesn't always ring.

Eufy is a tough one to recommend unless it's to a savvy individual. The amount of devices that do and don't work with HomeBase even confuses me.

Their warranties are also ass.

Very good deal. These eufy door cams are great because there are no monthly fees, unlike other brands. This one does need existing wires, however. Very easy to install if you have existing wires: I could not use the nuts like in these install vids, but just used electric tape instead and there have been no problems.

this doesn't allow the existing home door bell to ring right despite being hardwired on the same wires?

I have the same one and purchased it when it first came out. I have to say that it doesn't work very well, the AI is dumb and sometimes alerts me of human but it's just my car wheels. At times it even missed delivery guys that came to the door step and dropped a package.

The app works but it's slow to load on iPhone 12 Pro, takes about 20-30sec to open from a ring notification which is a long time to see who is at the door.

That being said, I haven't had any technical issues, plenty of storage and haven't found a better alternative that doesn't require a subscription. $60 is a very good price for what you get.

Can you add your own micro SD card for recording or there is in built storage for this? TIA
Yes, you can. I use a 128gb micro SD card. It is inserted into the Doorbell Chime.

I don't believe there's a micro SD slot, at least I never noticed. I only use their app which I believe stores it on the cloud for a certain number of days.

Yes, I has. I use a 128gb micro SD slot, and it is inserted into the Doorbell Chime.

Just a slightly different perspective. While i do have false positive on the notifications, its not frequent and to the point of being annoying. However, my camera only has about 1/3 of it facing street/plants/sky, and the rest is door and wall.
On my phone(andriod) it loads in about 3 to 4 seconds. on occasions, it does take longer, so that can be frustrating. overall, i love the fact that it works and i do not pay a subscription.

It's 100% not compatible with any homebase or hb3. I have this camera since 2019. The app would have a connect to homebase option if it was compatible. I enclosed 2 screen shot. There's no home base connection menu for this door bell in any of the sub menus.
